Thoughts of the Day 6/26/26

Morning

Romans 8:12-14 (KJB) Therefore, brethren, we are debtors, not to the flesh, to live after the flesh. For if ye live after the flesh, ye shall die: but if ye through the Spirit do mortify the deeds of the body, ye shall live. For as many as are led by the Spirit of God, they are the sons of God.

The Apostle Paul taught that the wages of sin is death, and if you choose to follow the ways of the sinful nature, then you shall die. This is why Jesus taught to repent or perish. Mortification means to put to death the old sinful person that you used to be, along with the sinful way that you used to live in the past. This is why God gives us grace, so that we can have the opportunity to undergo a complete transformation from a sinful wretch into a man of God. Salvation is far more than a one-time event, because it is a day by day process, whereby we make the choice to depart from iniquity, and walk in the light, and those who possess that attitude are walking on the narrow path, and truly are the sons of God.

Evening

Romans 9:30-32 (KJB) What shall we say then? That the Gentiles, which followed not after righteousness, have attained to righteousness, even the righteousness which is of faith. But Israel, which followed after the law of righteousness, hath not attained to the law of righteousness. Wherefore? Because they sought it not by faith, but as it were by the works of the law. For they stumbled at that stumblingstone;

Many people are trying to earn their own salvation, and actually believe that they will be in heaven simply because they are an upright and moral person. But the truth is that everybody in the world has a sin issue with God, which needs to be both accepted and addressed. God has given us an incredible opportunity to have all of our past sins expunged, but it can only be found through faith in His only begotten Son Jesus Christ. Don’t get me wrong, doing good works and being filled with moral and upright deeds is commanded throughout the Christian faith, but any good deeds that one does in their life are not going to matter at all at the judgment if you haven’t gotten forgiven for your sins through Christ Jesus. This begins by having the faith to be baptized by submersion into His name. Those who lack the faith to do this will certainly not be in heaven, no matter how many good works that they may do. You must be forgiven by God, because without Christ, you are trying to be justified by your own works, and you shall die in your sins.
