Good morning and welcome in everybody. Today, we are going to take a look at a passage of scripture, but before we do that, I wanted to tell you a little story.
How many of you have been to a marathon or watched some kind of foot race? It’s amazing to see how fast a runner can run. I was just reading recently that the fastest recorded running speed is right around 27 miles per hour, which is pretty amazing isn’t it. That’s really moving!
This reminds me of the Christian Life.
Each of us are going to have to learn how to run quickly too, because when you become a Christian, you will need to run away from all of the sinful temptations in this world, and one of them is youthful lusts.
2 Timothy 2:22 (KJB) Flee also youthful lusts: but follow righteousness, faith, charity, peace, with them that call on the Lord out of a pure heart.
Lust is having an overwhelming desire or craving, especially when it comes to sexual desire. As we slowly mature in the Christian Life, we need to move on to Spiritual adulthood, and that will require keeping a distance from certain things.
1 Timothy 6:11 (KJB) But thou, O man of God, flee these things; and follow after righteousness, godliness, faith, love, patience, meekness.
Matthew 5:27-30 (KJB) Ye have heard that it was said by them of old time, Thou shalt not commit adultery: But I say unto you, That whosoever looketh on a woman to lust after her hath committed adultery with her already in his heart. And if thy right eye offend thee, pluck it out, and cast it from thee: for it is profitable for thee that one of thy members should perish, and not that thy whole body should be cast into hell. And if thy right hand offend thee, cut it off, and cast it from thee: for it is profitable for thee that one of thy members should perish, and not that thy whole body should be cast into hell.
The lust of the eyes is not of God, it’s of this world, and sexuality is meant to be used during within a marriage.
1 John 2:15-17 (KJB) Love not the world, neither the things that are in the world. If any man love the world, the love of the Father is not in him. For all that is in the world, the lust of the flesh, and the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life, is not of the Father, but is of the world. And the world passeth away, and the lust thereof: but he that doeth the will of God abideth for ever.
When you get involved with fleshy lusts, they go to battle with our souls.
1 Peter 2:11 (KJB) Dearly beloved, I beseech you as strangers and pilgrims, abstain from fleshly lusts, which war against the soul;
1 Thessalonians 4:2-5 (KJB) For ye know what commandments we gave you by the Lord Jesus. For this is the will of God, even your sanctification, that ye should abstain from fornication: That every one of you should know how to possess his vessel in sanctification and honour; Not in the lust of concupiscence, even as the Gentiles which know not God:
So what we must do is to endure temptations when they happen, and it’s best to remove photos and other things that perhaps will provoke a reaction in one’s heart. If you are not going to put certain information in your head, it obviously makes sense that everything is going to be fine.
James 1:12-15 (KJB) Blessed is the man that endureth temptation: for when he is tried, he shall receive the crown of life, which the Lord hath promised to them that love him. Let no man say when he is tempted, I am tempted of God: for God cannot be tempted with evil, neither tempteth he any man: But every man is tempted, when he is drawn away of his own lust, and enticed. Then when lust hath conceived, it bringeth forth sin: and sin, when it is finished, bringeth forth death.
Colossians 3:5-6 (KJB) Mortify therefore your members which are upon the earth; fornication, uncleanness, inordinate affection, evil concupiscence, and covetousness, which is idolatry: For which things’ sake the wrath of God cometh on the children of disobedience:
How many times have you gotten out of bed and your leg was asleep? To mortify something means to completely deaden it off, so we don’t have any desire for it anymore.
1 Peter 4:3-5 (KJB) For the time past of our life may suffice us to have wrought the will of the Gentiles, when we walked in lasciviousness, lusts, excess of wine, revellings, banquetings, and abominable idolatries: Wherein they think it strange that ye run not with them to the same excess of riot, speaking evil of you: Who shall give account to him that is ready to judge the quick and the dead.
Mark 7:20-23 (KJB) And he said, That which cometh out of the man, that defileth the man. For from within, out of the heart of men, proceed evil thoughts, adulteries, fornications, murders, Thefts, covetousness, wickedness, deceit, lasciviousness, an evil eye, blasphemy, pride, foolishness: All these evil things come from within, and defile the man.
Lasciviousness is defined as an unrestrained sexual desire, arousing others to lust such as crude conversations or lewd gestures.
2 Corinthians 12:21 (KJB) And lest, when I come again, my God will humble me among you, and that I shall bewail many which have sinned already, and have not repented of the uncleanness and fornication and lasciviousness which they have committed.
1 Corinthians 6:15-18 (KJB) Know ye not that your bodies are the members of Christ? shall I then take the members of Christ, and make them the members of an harlot? God forbid. What? know ye not that he which is joined to an harlot is one body? for two, saith he, shall be one flesh. But he that is joined unto the Lord is one spirit. Flee fornication. Every sin that a man doeth is without the body; but he that committeth fornication sinneth against his own body.
So everybody needs to put on their running shoes the next time that you leave the house, and whenever you see things that are inappropriate, just turn around and,……
.,……..Run Away
