Good morning and welcome in everyone. Today, we are going to take a look at a passage of scripture, but before we do that, I wanted to tell you a little story.
When I was in high school, during the month of August, some friends and I would venture over to the county fair for the day. We would slowly work our way through the exhibits, sipping on a pop and munching on some good hot food. Eventually, we ended up on the Midway, playing some games and riding some rides. After we got bored with that, we would enter into a building that was filled with mirrors. Some of them would distort your figure and your shape. They could make you look tall or short, fat or thin. They could make your body look curved, and completely change your appearance. They were a false reflection of the genuine image, a perversion of the truth.
This reminds me of the Christian Life.
Today there are many people who are perverting the true gospel of Christ. It’s not the gospel that was originally given to the Apostles of Christ, but is a misrepresentation of biblical truth. Rather than repenting, they twist scriptures to make it fit their own carnal lifestyles and worldly ideologies. Like a carnival mirror, they pervert the true image of God’s Word, and reflect a false gospel to the world.
Galatians 1:6-9 ⁶ I marvel that ye are so soon removed from him that called you into the grace of Christ unto another gospel: ⁷ Which is not another; but there be some that trouble you, and would pervert the gospel of Christ. ⁸ But though we, or an angel from heaven, preach any other gospel unto you than that which we have preached unto you, let him be accursed. ⁹ As we said before, so say I now again, If any man preach any other gospel unto you than that ye have received, let him be accursed.
When you pervert something it means to alter or to change its true meaning. It is a state of distortion of what was originally intended. Today, there are many perversions of the Bible in publication, which have completely departed from the true teachings of our faith. They try to make the bible fit modern day society. The devil is very subtle, and will try to twist a word here, and a word there, in order to change the meaning of the passage. He’s been doing this since the garden of Eden. This is why we must earnestly contend for the faith, which you will find in the teachings of the King James Bible.
Jude 1:3 “Beloved, when I gave all diligence to write unto you of the common salvation, it was needful for me to write unto you, and exhort you that ye should earnestly contend for the faith which was once delivered unto the saints.”
Philippians 1:27 “Only let your conversation be as it becometh the gospel of Christ: that whether I come and see you, or else be absent, I may hear of your affairs, that ye stand fast in one spirit, with one mind striving together for the faith of the gospel;”
How many denominations are in the world today,…. yet there is only one true faith.
Ephesians 4:5 “One Lord, one faith, one baptism,”
The devil doesn’t want you becoming obedient to God, so one of the ways that he will attempt to lead you astray is by twisting scripture. He wants to turn you away from what is good and morally right, and corrupt your faith. There are many people who were corrupting God’s Word during the life of the Apostle Paul, but Paul spoke the truth in Christ.
2 Corinthians 2:17 “For we are not as many, which corrupt the word of God: but as of sincerity, but as of God, in the sight of God speak we in Christ.”
It’s clear that these things will get worse and worse until the appearance of the son of perdition, whom the Lord Jesus will destroy with the brightness of His coming.
2 Timothy 3:13 “But evil men and seducers shall wax worse and worse, deceiving, and being deceived.”
There are numerous people who misinterpret the teachings of the Apostle Paul. Once again, they don’t want to accept biblical truth and repent. They want to abide in their sinfulness, so they purposely preach a false gospel, twisting its true meaning, which will ultimately result in their own damnation.
2 Peter 3:16 “As also in all his epistles, speaking in them of these things; in which are some things hard to be understood, which they that are unlearned and unstable wrest, as they do also the other scriptures, unto their own destruction.”
Some people who profess to be Christian wonder how it’s possible that people will be deceived by the end times antichrist before the return of Jesus. It’s because the antichrist is already here, preaching false gospels in false churches and teaching heresies. Their false prophets are preparing them and leading them right into his hands.
1 John 2 ¹⁸ Little children, it is the last time: and as ye have heard that antichrist shall come, even now are there many antichrists; whereby we know that it is the last time. ¹⁹ They went out from us, but they were not of us; for if they had been of us, they would no doubt have continued with us: but they went out, that they might be made manifest that they were not all of us.
Many people are going to turn away from the true faith, seduced by false apostles and false prophets who preach a false gospel.
2 Peter 2:1-3 ¹ But there were false prophets also among the people, even as there shall be false teachers among you, who privily shall bring in damnable heresies, even denying the Lord that bought them, and bring upon themselves swift destruction. ² And many shall follow their pernicious ways; by reason of whom the way of truth shall be evil spoken of. ³ And through covetousness shall they with feigned words make merchandise of you: whose judgment now of a long time lingereth not, and their damnation slumbereth not.
There is a false form of Christianity that is on rise, one that turns away it’s ears from the truth of God’s Holy Word.
2 Timothy 4:2-4 ² Preach the word; be instant in season, out of season; reprove, rebuke, exhort with all longsuffering and doctrine. ³ For the time will come when they will not endure sound doctrine; but after their own lusts shall they heap to themselves teachers, having itching ears; ⁴ And they shall turn away their ears from the truth, and shall be turned unto fables.
The wolf has subtly gained access to the sheep, and even entered into the pulpit to lead people in rebellion with him.
1 Timothy 4:1-2 ¹ Now the Spirit speaketh expressly, that in the latter times some shall depart from the faith, giving heed to seducing spirits, and doctrines of devils; ² Speaking lies in hypocrisy; having their conscience seared with a hot iron;
He has even ordained the false the prophetess Jezebel to preach and teach God’s Word.
Revelation 2:20-22 ²⁰Notwithstanding I have a few things against thee, because thou sufferest that woman Jezebel, which calleth herself a prophetess, to teach and to seduce my servants to commit fornication, and to eat things sacrificed unto idols. ²¹ And I gave her space to repent of her fornication; and she repented not. ²² Behold, I will cast her into a bed, and them that commit adultery with her into great tribulation, except they repent of their deeds.
You want to make sure that you surround yourself with people who believe God’s truth and steadfastly contend for the true faith. Don’t be deceived, and open the wrong door, only to find yourself standing inside a….
