Let Jesus Make It Easy

Imagine that you have a giant swimming pool that needs to be emptied, and your job for the day is to get it completely emptied until it’s dry, but all that you have is a small ice cream pail to do it with. Right at the start you can imagine how long it would take to finish so you get right to it. Bucket after bucket you begin to throw out of the pool, but after hours of continual emptying you will certainly be exhausted, with hardly any progress being made, and it should be clearly evident that there is no way that you will be able to finish in time. Now imagine that instead of continuing to throw out those buckets you call up a friend on your phone, and tell him that you need him to bring over his gas powered water pump, which when he arrives completely drains the pool in a matter of minutes. Your friend just made it infinitely easier for you, taking the burden of work away from you and giving you rest.

That is what Jesus did for us. Instead of having to struggle under the Law, the pages and pages of them that we would have to do, Jesus comes and takes it all away. Just like someone trying to empty a pool with a bucket by the end of a day, we cannot get to Heaven on our own through the Law. We need help, and it is found in Jesus.

Matthew 11:28-30 “Come unto me, all ye that labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest.

Take my yoke upon you, and learn of me; for I am meek and lowly in heart: and ye shall find rest unto your souls.

For my yoke is easy, and my burden is light.”

In life, there is always a hard way to do things, and an easy way. Someone can dig a basement with a shovel and take a couple weeks, or they can hire a backhoe and be done in a couple hours. You can cut down a tree with an axe, or you can use a chainsaw.

When Jesus died, He took away the entire Judaic Law, and made it easier for us. No longer is it a sin to eat pork, or do we have to observe certain days of the month. Instead, what does He tell us to do?

Matthew 22:37-40 “Jesus said unto him, Thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind.

This is the first and great commandment.

And the second is like unto it, Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself.

On these two commandments hang all the law and the prophets.”

Love God and love thy neighbor as thyself. That’s not so hard is it?

No one could keep the Law, so Jesus came to the earth and did it for us. He took that burden away and made it easier. That is what the Jews need to realize. They cannot keep the law perfectly. They need to let Jesus make it easy for them.

“For my yoke is easy, and my burden is light.”

The Law has been taken away. Let Jesus make it easy for you!

In Christ,

Andrew
