Good Morning and welcome in. Today we are going to take a look at a passage of scripture from 1st Corinthians.
Each day, injustice surrounds us. It is like a disease that spreads from one soul to another. Many people seek high places of authority in this world, not because they care about doing justice, but to use their position as a place of advantage and power over others.
They take bribes and do political favors. They look the other way in order to obtain a higher office. They attack famous people simply to be in the news and become famous themselves. They reward the wicked and punish the innocent. They make convictions based on fabricated evidence. They steal drug money. They practice extortion and obtain confessions through the use of force and threats. They plant evidence and suppress the truth. They falsify documents and forge signatures. They make crooked deals, and with the use of a government agency, cover it all up. Christians are forbidden to go to law with others. Instead of having worldly men judge between you, we need to go to the church, where things are judged by men of God.
1 Corinthians 6. ¹ Dare any of you, having a matter against another, go to law before the unjust, and not before the saints? ² Do ye not know that the saints shall judge the world? and if the world shall be judged by you, are ye unworthy to judge the smallest matters? ³ Know ye not that we shall judge angels? how much more things that pertain to this life? ⁴ If then ye have judgments of things pertaining to this life, set them to judge who are least esteemed in the church. ⁵ I speak to your shame. Is it so, that there is not a wise man among you? no, not one that shall be able to judge between his brethren? ⁶ But brother goeth to law with brother, and that before the unbelievers. ⁷ Now therefore there is utterly a fault among you, because ye go to law one with another. Why do ye not rather take wrong? why do ye not rather suffer yourselves to be defrauded? ⁸ Nay, ye do wrong, and defraud, and that your brethren.
In an Earthly courtroom, they judge things according to the book of law, but in the church we judge things according to the book of God. They judge according to the spirit of man, while in the church, judgments are made according to the Spirit of God. Earthly courtrooms are temporal, while Spiritual courtrooms in the church are eternal. An Earthly courtroom presides over Earthly places, while the church presides over Heavenly ones. The church is a higher courtroom than any that you will find in this world, this is because its judgments pertain to one’s eternal salvation. An example of church judgment is found in the following passage.
Matthew 18. ¹⁵ Moreover if thy brother shall trespass against thee, go and tell him his fault between thee and him alone: if he shall hear thee, thou hast gained thy brother. ¹⁶ But if he will not hear thee, then take with thee one or two more, that in the mouth of two or three witnesses every word may be established. ¹⁷ And if he shall neglect to hear them, tell it unto the church: but if he neglect to hear the church, let him be unto thee as an heathen man and a publican. ¹⁸ Verily I say unto you, Whatsoever ye shall bind on earth shall be bound in heaven: and whatsoever ye shall loose on earth shall be loosed in heaven. ¹⁹ Again I say unto you, That if two of you shall agree on earth as touching any thing that they shall ask, it shall be done for them of my Father which is in heaven. ²⁰ For where two or three are gathered together in my name, there am I in the midst of them.
There have been people in our personal lives, who have claimed to be followers of Lord Jesus Christ, that openly sinned against us. In the past, we spent months trying to get them to repent and admit their faults so they could be forgiven and reconciled, but they adamantly refused. Andrew and I have spoken to them and written to them, and we both bear witness to their complete rejection of the Gospel of reconciliation. Because of this, they will die in a state of unforgiven sin. Remember, it is God’s obedient saints that will eventually be judging angels. Judgments in Earthly courtroom are in regard to Earthly punishments, while judgments in the church are in regard to eternal punishment.
1 Peter 4 ¹⁷ For the time is come that judgment must begin at the house of God: and if it first begin at us, what shall the end be of them that obey not the gospel of God? ¹⁸ And if the righteous scarcely be saved, where shall the ungodly and the sinner appear?
As a Christian, we are called into suffering at the wrongs that are committed against us. Although people may sue you at the law, Christians cannot be a partaker of these things. Filing for divorce is to take a spouse to court, which not only is a violation of this passage, but numerous others that concern the bond of Holy matrimony. When a wife defrauds you of your children, and tries to take whatever little money you have, we are called into suffering by obeying the law of Christ.
Matthew 5 ³⁸ Ye have heard that it hath been said, An eye for an eye, and a tooth for a tooth: ³⁹ But I say unto you, That ye resist not evil: but whosoever shall smite thee on thy right cheek, turn to him the other also. ⁴⁰ And if any man will sue thee at the law, and take away thy coat, let him have thy cloke also.
When we are defrauded in such a manner, we are not supposed to resist evil, because the vengeance of God will be poured out upon their heads.
“That no man go beyond and defraud his brother in any matter: because that the Lord is the avenger of all such, as we also have forewarned you and testified.”
— 1 Thessalonians 4:6
“Dearly beloved, avenge not yourselves, but rather give place unto wrath: for it is written, Vengeance is mine; I will repay, saith the Lord.” — Romans 12:19
2 Thessalonians 1. ⁶ Seeing it is a righteous thing with God to recompense tribulation to them that trouble you; ⁷ And to you who are troubled rest with us, when the Lord Jesus shall be revealed from heaven with his mighty angels, ⁸ In flaming fire taking vengeance on them that know not God, and that obey not the gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ: ⁹ Who shall be punished with everlasting destruction from the presence of the Lord, and from the glory of his power;
Matters in the church need to be taken to the church, where two or three prophets are to speak, and the other judge. This honor has been given to men of God who are capable of making wise decisions based upon scriptural truth.
There is a great difference between Earthly law and spiritual law, just as there is a great difference between Earthly Courts and…..
….Heavenly Courts
