The Way of The Reckless

Good morning and welcome in everybody. Today, we are going to take a look at a passage of scripture. From the book of 2nd Timothy.

2 Timothy 3:8-9 (KJB)  Now as Jannes and Jambres withstood Moses, so do these also resist the truth: men of corrupt minds, reprobate concerning the faith. But they shall proceed no further: for their folly shall be manifest unto all men, as their’s also was.

To resist means to refuse to accept or be changed by something. It is to stand against and to oppose. The Apostle Paul was warning Timothy that in the last days perilous times were going to come. This is because there would be people who appeared to have a form of godliness but they would completely deny the power of a Spirit-filled life. I often refer to this as false Christianity, which is basically people who claim to be followers of Christ but they completely deny the teachings of the Christian faith. Rather than turning away from their sins and repenting of dead works, they continue to abide in them. Many of the religious leaders of Jesus’ day were filled with these same attributes, appearing to be sheep but were actually wolves inside of their hearts, and when some of them showed up out at the Jordan, they were openly rebuked by John the Baptist.

Matthew 3:4-10 (KJB)  And the same John had his raiment of camel’s hair, and a leathern girdle about his loins; and his meat was locusts and wild honey. Then went out to him Jerusalem, and all Judaea, and all the region round about Jordan, and were baptized of him in Jordan, confessing their sins. But when he saw many of the Pharisees and Sadducees come to his baptism, he said unto them, O generation of vipers, who hath warned you to flee from the wrath to come? Bring forth therefore fruits meet for repentance: And think not to say within yourselves, We have Abraham to our father: for I say unto you, that God is able of these stones to raise up children unto Abraham. And now also the axe is laid unto the root of the trees: therefore every tree which bringeth not forth good fruit is hewn down, and cast into the fire.

Preaching the Truth of scripture is going to bring on contention with people who refuse to accept it. Rather than being filled with a meek heart of submission to God, they will be filled up with prideful rebellion instead, which is a quality that God hates.

1 Samuel 15:23 (KJB)  For rebellion is as the sin of witchcraft, and stubbornness is as iniquity and idolatry.

The Lord hates rebellion so much that He took the life of the false prophet Hananiah for teaching rebellion against Him.

Jeremiah 28:15-17 (KJB)  Then said the prophet Jeremiah unto Hananiah the prophet, Hear now, Hananiah; The LORD hath not sent thee; but thou makest this people to trust in a lie. Therefore thus saith the LORD; Behold, I will cast thee from off the face of the earth: this year thou shalt die, because thou hast taught rebellion against the LORD So Hananiah the prophet died the same year in the seventh month.

Timothy was commanded to continue preaching, because there would come a time when people resisted the will of God so much, that they would turn their ears away from the Truth and believe lies instead.

2 Timothy 4:1-4 (KJB)  I charge thee therefore before God, and the Lord Jesus Christ, who shall judge the quick and the dead at his appearing and his kingdom; Preach the word; be instant in season, out of season; reprove, rebuke, exhort with all longsuffering and doctrine. For the time will come when they will not endure sound doctrine; but after their own lusts shall they heap to themselves teachers, having itching ears; And they shall turn away their ears from the truth, and shall be turned unto fables.

The Apostle warned that seducers and deceivers would wax worse and worse, and we certainly are in the thick of it right now. But if people are going to be openly contentious with the teachings of scripture then they cannot see Spiritual things at all, and the blind will follow the blind right into the ditch.

1 Timothy 4:1-2 (KJB)  Now the Spirit speaketh expressly, that in the latter times some shall depart from the faith, giving heed to seducing spirits, and doctrines of devils; speaking lies in hypocrisy; having their conscience seared with a hot iron;

God is not mocked and people are going to reap with they sow, whether good or evil, and when people choose to resist Scriptural Truth, then God is going to cause them to believe a lie instead. A lot of them will actually believe that they will be in heaven, but because they openly resisted the will of God, they will find themselves eternally damned instead.

2 Thessalonians 2:10-12 (KJB)  And with all deceivableness of unrighteousness in them that perish; because they received not the love of the truth, that they might be saved. And for this cause God shall send them strong delusion, that they should believe a lie: That they all might be damned who believed not the truth, but had pleasure in unrighteousness.

Jesus and the disciples preached the gospel of repentance, but when people completely resist the teachings of Scripture, it becomes impossible at that point to repent of their sins. Rather than abiding in the truth they are abiding in a lie instead. Many people have reduced the Christian Life to confessing Jesus as their Lord, but it’s going to take more than that to get to heaven. It will require a faithful and obedient heart, one that turns away from sinful living, and walks according to God’s will.

Matthew 7:21-23 (KJB)  Not every one that saith unto me, Lord, Lord, shall enter into the kingdom of heaven; but he that doeth the will of my Father which is in heaven. Many will say to me in that day, Lord, Lord, have we not prophesied in thy name? and in thy name have cast out devils? and in thy name done many wonderful works? And then will I profess unto them, I never knew you: depart from me, ye that work iniquity.

Many people are going to claim to be a Christian, but then live lives of complete resistance towards the will of God. They will profess to know the Lord Jesus, but their own wicked works will completely deny that fact. The foolishness of their deeds are going to become known unto all men, and they will be closed with dishonor and shame, because they rejected the narrow path of Christ, in order to walk on,……
