Good morning and welcome in everybody. Today, we are going to take a look at a passage of scripture from the book of second John.
2 John 1:9-11 (KJB) Whosoever transgresseth, and abideth not in the doctrine of Christ, hath not God. He that abideth in the doctrine of Christ, he hath both the Father and the Son. If there come any unto you, and bring not this doctrine, receive him not into your house, neither bid him God speed: For he that biddeth him God speed is partaker of his evil deeds.
To abide means to accept or act in accordance with a rule. Some similar words are to comply with, obey, follow, or conform to. Keeping the teachings of the Christian faith is extremely important, because God is going to reward those who humbly serve Him, but on the other hand, He will punish those who practice a policy of rebellion and non-compliance. Non-compliance is the failure or refusal to comply with something such as a wish or command. It’s like a willful child who will not submit themselves to others who have authority over them. When people get like this they can become extremely contentious, and will argue and resist biblical teachings rather than submitting themselves to the will of God.
Romans 2:5-11 (KJB) But after thy hardness and impenitent heart treasurest up unto thyself wrath against the day of wrath and revelation of the righteous judgment of God; Who will render to every man according to his deeds: To them who by patient continuance in well doing seek for glory and honour and immortality, eternal life: But unto them that are contentious, and do not obey the truth, but obey unrighteousness, indignation and wrath, Tribulation and anguish, upon every soul of man that doeth evil, of the Jew first, and also of the Gentile; But glory, honour, and peace, to every man that worketh good, to the Jew first, and also to the Gentile: For there is no respect of persons with God.
Galatians 6:7-8 (KJB) Be not deceived; God is not mocked: for whatsoever a man soweth, that shall he also reap. For he that soweth to his flesh shall of the flesh reap corruption; but he that soweth to the Spirit shall of the Spirit reap life everlasting.
Many people will claim that they are filled with God’s Holy Spirit, but then at the same time openly reject the Holy Spirit filled teachings of the Word of God. The Holy Spirit is only one Spirit, and it’s absurd to think that someone would be of God when they are not in unison with the men that God used to write the teachings of the King James Bible.
1 John 4:6 (KJB) We are of God: he that knoweth God heareth us; he that is not of God heareth not us. Hereby know we the spirit of truth, and the spirit of error.
As we approach the return of our Lord Jesus Christ, it’s going to get really bad because many people are going to profess to be followers of Christ, but they will completely deny the doctrines of our faith.
Titus 1:16 (KJB) They profess that they know God; but in works they deny him, being abominable, and disobedient, and unto every good work reprobate.
2 Timothy 3:1-9 (KJB) This know also, that in the last days perilous times shall come. For men shall be lovers of their own selves, covetous, boasters, proud, blasphemers, disobedient to parents, unthankful, unholy, Without natural affection, trucebreakers, false accusers, incontinent, fierce, despisers of those that are good, Traitors, heady, highminded, lovers of pleasures more than lovers of God; Having a form of godliness, but denying the power thereof: from such turn away. For of this sort are they which creep into houses, and lead captive silly women laden with sins, led away with divers lusts, Ever learning, and never able to come to the knowledge of the truth. Now as Jannes and Jambres withstood Moses, so do these also resist the truth: men of corrupt minds, reprobate concerning the faith. But they shall proceed no further: for their folly shall be manifest unto all men, as their’s also was.
Abiding in doctrine is to continue to obey and submit to the teachings of scripture. This is incredibly important because it will ultimately result in one’s own salvation!
1 Timothy 4:13-16 (KJB) Till I come, give attendance to reading, to exhortation, to doctrine. Neglect not the gift that is in thee, which was given thee by prophecy, with the laying on of the hands of the presbytery. Meditate upon these things; give thyself wholly to them; that thy profiting may appear to all. Take heed unto thyself, and unto the doctrine; continue in them: for in doing this thou shalt both save thyself, and them that hear thee.
In this present world, we are surrounded by an innumerable amount of false prophets, who are trying to lead people astray from the will of God. But don’t be deceived, because those who will not submit themselves to biblical doctrines do not have God.
John 14:21-24 (KJB) He that hath my commandments, and keepeth them, he it is that loveth me: and he that loveth me shall be loved of my Father, and I will love him, and will manifest myself to him. Judas saith unto him, not Iscariot, Lord, how is it that thou wilt manifest thyself unto us, and not unto the world? Jesus answered and said unto him, If a man love me, he will keep my words: and my Father will love him, and we will come unto him, and make our abode with him. He that loveth me not keepeth not my sayings: and the word which ye hear is not mine, but the Father’s which sent me.
When someone chooses to begin the Christian Life, they must wholeheartedly reject the sinful living of an unbeliever, in order to become a faithful and obedient child of God. But those who are hostile towards the teachings of scripture and the doctrine of repentance from dead works need to be reproved for their disloyalty to the teachings of Christ. If they manifest a disinclination to submit to the will of God, you shouldn’t even receive them into your home, because all you are doing is opening up your doors to their religious insurrection and rebellion. In doing so, you become a partaker of their evil deeds.
Ephesians 5:3-13 (KJB) But fornication, and all uncleanness, or covetousness, let it not be once named among you, as becometh saints; Neither filthiness, nor foolish talking, nor jesting, which are not convenient: but rather giving of thanks. For this ye know, that no whoremonger, nor unclean person, nor covetous man, who is an idolater, hath any inheritance in the kingdom of Christ and of God. Let no man deceive you with vain words: for because of these things cometh the wrath of God upon the children of disobedience. Be not ye therefore partakers with them. For ye were sometimes darkness, but now are ye light in the Lord: walk as children of light: (For the fruit of the Spirit is in all goodness and righteousness and truth;) Proving what is acceptable unto the Lord. And have no fellowship with the unfruitful works of darkness, but rather reprove them. For it is a shame even to speak of those things which are done of them in secret. But all things that are reproved are made manifest by the light: for whatsoever doth make manifest is light.
Jesus loved us so much that He laid down His own life to take the penalty for our sins, and just knowing this fact should cause somebody to want to love Him in return by becoming faithfully obedient to His calling and purpose. Those who possess the Spirit of God will be filled with a humble and obedient heart towards Him, but those who resist will receive the reward of unrighteousness, and shall be punished forever for their rebellion and,…..
