Good morning and welcome in everybody. Today, we are going to take a look at a passage of scripture, but before we do that, I wanted to tell you a little story.
You know, they have been using coins for thousands of years, even as far back as ancient times, but it has been claimed that Lydian lion coins were the very first ones ever created, dating back to circa 600 BC. They were a state issued metallic coin made out of gold and silver and were stamped with a lion’s head. But I just read how they have discontinued making the penny. After a long period of History, they finally decided to quit making them back in November of 2025. Apparently they have become more expensive to make than what they are actually worth! But in comparison, a dollar bill holds far more value. Even when we pay for things at the grocery store, a dollar bill can pay for things many times over that of a penny, simply because it is of much greater value.
This reminds me the Christian Life
Many things hold a greatly different value to people in this world, but the value that Moses placed upon the things of God completely outweighed all of the treasures that he could ever obtain when he was in Egypt. This is what happens when God completely outweighs all of the things of this world, and becomes the greatest love of your life.
Matthew 22:35-38 (KJB) Then one of them, which was a lawyer, asked him a question, tempting him, and saying, Master, which is the great commandment in the law? Jesus said unto him, Thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind. This is the first and great commandment.
Notice the usage of the word “all” in this passage, which means with the total amount, or with everything that you have got. A synonym is the word “entirely,”,…like placing a head of lettuce on your dinner table and eating the entire thing. Many times I like to think of our hearts like a glass of cold water. You might drink some of it until it is only half full, but then you have to return to the kitchen tap and fill it back up once again. This is how we need to treat God, constantly returning unto Him with our sincere adoration, passion and devotion. This love must go far beyond anything else in this world, and we must prove it by our actions. There are hundreds of things that people can love more than our Lord Jesus, but they can easily be seen in the amount of time that you spend doing them. To fulfill the first commandment, we must chase after God, rather than chasing after wealth, and being focus driven on all of the temporal concerns of this world. Jesus warned about these very things.
Mark 4:18-19 (KJB) And these are they which are sown among thorns; such as hear the word,And the cares of this world, and the deceitfulness of riches, and the lusts of other things entering in, choke the word, and it becometh unfruitful.
Moses loved God so much that it’s equivalent to somebody walking away from a billion dollars! The Apostles left their jobs so that they could be with the Lord each day. That is a seriously seeking heart, and will bring forth great rewards from God. Love for the Lord requires a serious time commitment to Him and dedicated involvement in the works of the church. Whatever you chase after is what you really love, so people shouldn’t deceive themselves. What people really need is to be filled up with a great revival and quickening of the Holy Spirit, which happens when He becomes your greatest love.
People have said that love is an action verb, and each of us must prove to the Lord that there is nothing in this world that can ever come in between Him and us. Peter loved the Lord Jesus so much, that he was ready to go into battle when they came to take Jesus in the garden, (which is probably one of the reasons why he was so grieved when He denied the Lord three times.) But after he was restored, he spent his entire life in service towards Christ Jesus by feeding the sheep of God, never abandoning his duties, and being faithful unto death. I’ve said it for 25 years, that love is a powerful emotion, but you had better make sure that it’s placed upon the right things, because when all these things in this world fade away, only our firm love for Jesus can bring forth eternal life.
1 John 2:15-17 (KJB) Love not the world, neither the things that are in the world. If any man love the world, the love of the Father is not in him. For all that is in the world, the lust of the flesh, and the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life, is not of the Father, but is of the world. And the world passeth away, and the lust thereof: but he that doeth the will of God abideth for ever.
Matthew 16:26 (KJB) For what is a man profited, if he shall gain the whole world, and lose his own soul? or what shall a man give in exchange for his soul?
A lot of men in this world will chase after a wife, or even after a girlfriend, but a man of God does not chase after a woman, he chases after God! Even Moses left his own wife and family to head up into the mountain to seek after God for 40 days. Women take a back seat to a man’s relationship with God, and if they can’t understand that, then they can go find some other godless person.
Obviously we are supposed to love our families and children and our neighbor as ourselves. We are supposed to be filled with a fervent love, not only towards people in the church but for others in the community as well. But in the life of a christian, nothing can be done in partiality, because that shows that you love others more than the will of God. Love speaks the truth, because you care about savings somebody else’s soul from the fearful day of God’s wrath that is coming in the future.
A lot of people in this world will say that one of the greatest character traits to have in politics is loyalty. But many of them really don’t understand that if you want to get to heaven, our loyalties must abide in Christ Jesus above and beyond any other relationship or thing in this world. When that happens, the true men of God are revealed to the world; loving, devoted, loyal, servants of Christ Jesus. Just like military men who leave their own families to serve their country, men of God do not suffer anything to come in between their service to Christ Jesus. No matter how much you genuinely care about others, the Lord Jesus Christ must be our greatest Love of All, because our loyalties will abide in His will, and doctrines of the Christian faith.
John 3:30 (KJB) He must increase, but I must decrease.
A lot of the world loves each other, as scripture teaches sinners will love other sinners. Love is something that is certainly not strange to an unbelieving world. Even before the destruction of the flood people were marrying and given in marriage. But that wasn’t enough to save any of them from the fearful day of God’s wrath. It was because the love of God was not in their hearts, something that Jesus had told the Jews too.
John 5:42 (KJB) But I know you, that ye have not the love of God in you.
Submission to the first commandment completely changes one’s life, from fisherman into Apostles, and shepherds into Kings. This is because their love for God is a rock that will never be moved no matter what they have to endure in this life. So when you think about it, the things of God outweighed everything else in the life of Moses. This was because the riches in Christ were worth far more than the things of this world, just like the huge difference between the value of a dollar bill, and,….
