Thoughts of the Day 4/30/26

Morning

Deuteronomy 5:11 (KJB) Thou shalt not take the name of the LORD thy God in vain: for the LORD will not hold him guiltless that taketh his name in vain.

When you go into a courtroom, you will address the judge as your honor. Even in the military, you will address your superiors as general or sergeant. How we address them shows our respect for them, and their place of authority. Those who use the name of the Lord Jesus Christ in vain, use it in everyday conversation rather than reserving it for sacred purposes such as prayer, worship and biblical instruction. This happens all the time out the world when people use it in a worthless, careless and irreverent manner. Although this is a verse from the old testament, nobody who is a sincere follower of Christ Jesus is going to take the Lord’s name in vain, because we honor Him and hold Him in place of reverence above all others.

Evening

1 Corinthians 7:39 (KJB) The wife is bound by the law as long as her husband liveth; but if her husband be dead, she is at liberty to be married to whom she will; only in the Lord.

A baptized woman is forbidden from departing her husband in the Christian faith, because it is a permanent union created by God. Whatever sins might happen between a married couple will have to be dealt with occasionally in due course, but regardless of whatever they might be, the marriage must never be dissolved nor put asunder. If the wife departs and then goes through the process of divorcing her husband, it really doesn’t matter whether she gets married or not after that, simply because she has already abandoned her faith, rebelled against the will of God, and defiled herself in the sight of Lord. A woman who faithfully remains in her marriage, whose husband dies, may remarry again if she so desires, just make sure you pick a man who fears God and walks according to the teachings of Christ.
