Good morning and welcome in everybody. Today, we are going to take a look at a passage of scripture, but before we do that, I wanted to tell you a little story.
When I was very young, we used to have a barrel stove out in our garage, and whenever you needed firewood you went across the road to grab some off of the Holz Hausen, or “woodhouse”. Actually we had a few of these piles, and they are commonly referred to as a beehive stack or a round wood pile. These can be made by making an 8 ft diameter circle with fire logs at the base. You stack your logs in a circle, leaning them slightly inward towards the center of the hole, making sure to keep the bark up when you stack the wood to shed the rain. To keep the circle leaning inward you can add some shims on the outside of your fire logs. When the walls get two or three feet high you can start throwing fire logs into the center of the hole, and repeat the process over and over again until eventually it looks like a giant beehive or a small round house sitting on the ground. They actually claim that wood stacked in this formation will actually dry a lot quicker than other methods because it has a chimney effect. But because we didn’t use a heck of a lot of wood back then, by the time that we finally got all the way down to the very bottom row, most of it was decayed and rotten because it had been stacked for many years directly on the ground. At one time it was dry and fresh, but because of many years of rain and moisture, they had completely decomposed.
This reminds me of the Christian Life.
Things eventually rot and decay, just like everything else out in the woods. But some people will do the same thing to their faith. Rather than abiding in the teachings of scripture, they will begin listening to all the philosophies and teachings of this world. Just like the logs on the bottom row of our Holz Hausen, the new faith that had been placed inside of their hearts will eventually become rotten and corrupted.
Colossians 2:8-9 (KJB) Beware lest any man spoil you through philosophy and vain deceit, after the tradition of men, after the rudiments of the world, and not after Christ. For in him dwelleth all the fulness of the Godhead bodily.
Philosophy has been defined as the systematic study of fundamental questions regarding existence, knowledge, ethics, reason and reality. Another dictionary defines it as the systematic study of fundamental ideas regarding knowledge, truth and reality. A few synonyms that I found are ideologies, principles, doctrine or a worldview. Ever since we were children, many of us have had the philosophies and teachings of this world pounded into our brain, simply because we are surrounded by an unbelieving world and have been educated by people who reject the teachings of Scripture. As a Christian, you have to be extremely careful about who you surround yourself with, because the world has certain concepts and ideas that are completely contrary to the Truth of Holy Scripture.
Just one example, is people’s viewpoint on evolution. Many false prophets have claimed that God created ape and then that creature evolved over the years into a man. Some of these people claim to be doctors of the Christian faith, but the truth is all they are is a charlatan. More than likely they have encouraged women preaching which shows that they are completely unspiritual anyway. Adam was created in the image of God, so when they teach these things, what are they saying about the Heavenly Father? The people who preach this garbage are wicked and evil blasphemers, and are not even worthy of the Christian Life. I cannot understand why anybody would follow after them, but we must leave them alone, because God will take them out of the way. This is because they are a fulfillment of biblical prophecy, because the blind will follow the blind right into the ditch.
1 Timothy 6:20-21 (KJB) O Timothy, keep that which is committed to thy trust, avoiding profane and vain babblings, and oppositions of science falsely so called: Which some professing have erred concerning the faith. Grace be with thee. Amen.
Scriptures clearly teach that many people who attempt the Christian Life are not going to enter into heaven, simply because they turned their ears away from Biblical truth and opened up their hearts and minds to the doctrines and teachings of this world instead. When they do this, they shipwreck their own faith and throw it right into the dumpster with the rest of the unbelievers. But these are the latter days that we are passing through, filled with people who claim to be Christian, but they are filled up with the doctrines of devils.
1 Timothy 4:1-6 (KJB) Now the Spirit speaketh expressly, that in the latter times some shall depart from the faith, giving heed to seducing spirits, and doctrines of devils; speaking lies in hypocrisy; having their conscience seared with a hot iron; Forbidding to marry, and commanding to abstain from meats, which God hath created to be received with thanksgiving of them which believe and know the truth. For every creature of God is good, and nothing to be refused, if it be received with thanksgiving: For it is sanctified by the word of God and prayer. If thou put the brethren in remembrance of these things, thou shalt be a good minister of Jesus Christ, nourished up in the words of faith and of good doctrine, whereunto thou hast attained.
2 Timothy 4:3-4 (KJB) For the time will come when they will not endure sound doctrine; but after their own lusts shall they heap to themselves teachers, having itching ears; And they shall turn away their ears from the truth, and shall be turned unto fables.
There is only one source of truth because Jesus is the way the truth and the life, and to allow philosophies to come into your thinking usurps the Word of Christ. It’s no wonder that the Apostles preached so strongly against these issues. Do people think that they are smart? If Earthly wisdom causes them to believe things above the Word of God, then they are fools.
1 Corinthians 1:20 (KJB) ……hath not God made foolish the wisdom of this world?
Hebrews 13:9 (KJB) Be not carried about with divers and strange doctrines…..
True wisdom is found in the Word of God, not men.
1 Corinthians 3:18-19 (KJB) Let no man deceive himself. If any man among you seemeth to be wise in this world, let him become a fool, that he may be wise. For the wisdom of this world is foolishness with God. For it is written, He taketh the wise in their own craftiness.
Many people who claim to be Christian are going to corrupt themselves because they will buy in to all the teachings and doctrines of this world. They may have began with eagerness in their new found faith, but because they open up their ears to the world, their hearts will become spoiled and corrupted to teachings of the one true faith. Beware that this never happens to you, because at that point, one’s faith becomes nothing more than a piece of rotten wood that you would find at the bottom of the….
