Thoughts of the Day 6/10/26

Morning

Colossians 3:16 (KJB) Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly in all wisdom; teaching and admonishing one another in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing with grace in your hearts to the Lord.

Putting words to music is a great avenue to learn things. After all, most of us still remember songs that we heard in kindergarten, as we learned about all of the letters of the alphabet, and our numbers. But the same thing is also true about understanding the teachings of the Christian Life. When we take the words of Holy Scripture and put them to music, we have the greatest lyrics available of any song that has ever been written. So, whether it’s psalms, hymns or spiritual songs, all of them can help us to remember the will of God, and the doctrines and teachings of our faith.

Evening

James 4:13-16 (KJB) Go to now, ye that say, To day or to morrow we will go into such a city, and continue there a year, and buy and sell, and get gain: Whereas ye know not what shall be on the morrow. For what is your life? It is even a vapour, that appeareth for a little time, and then vanisheth away. For that ye ought to say, If the Lord will, we shall live, and do this, or that. But now ye rejoice in your boastings: all such rejoicing is evil.

A lot of people in the world place their faith in themselves rather than Christ Jesus. I think about Goliath, who trusted in his own physical strength and towering height that he was going to defeat David, while the young shepherd boy’s faith was not in himself, but in Christ Jesus the Lord. Many people claim that they are going to do this or going to do that, but such boasting is evil in the sight of God. Those who think that they are going to bring something to pass simply because of their own doing, are no different than Goliath, but a lot of us know what happened to him. In his own arrogant boasting, God took his life from him, feeding his flesh to the beasts of the field as an example to all who place their trust in themselves, rather than in Christ Jesus the Lord.
