The Three Gorges Dam

Good morning and welcome in everybody. Today, we are going to take a look at a passage of scripture, but before we do that, I wanted to tell you a little story.

There are many huge concrete dams that have been built throughout this world, but it has been said that the largest one, according to the sheer output power that is created from its turbines, is found in Hubel China, and spans across the Yangtze River. It is so big, that it has been commonly called the other Great Wall. This was a huge undertaking that took around 18 years to complete, and finally became operational in 2012. Some sources claim that because of the massive amounts of water that are held back by this dam, that it actually shifts the planet’s mass and has slowed down the earth’s rotation. It is considered the largest hydroelectric facility in the world, and the largest concrete gravity structure which produces a staggering average of 241 million kilowatt hours of electricity daily! Approximately 325 billion gallons of water flow through the three gorges dam every single day, and just to put that in perspective for you, that is more water than is contained in the entire lake of Big Winnie, a fisherman hotspot that is found up here in Northern Minnesota.

This reminds me of the Christian Life.

Water has been flowing over the Earth for thousands of years, being harnessed to create energy, to water our gardens, and to quench our thirst. It provides us with one of the most important things that we need in order to sustain our Earthly life. But to live forever is going to require partaking of a different type of water, one that will lead us to everlasting life.

John 4:5-14 (KJB)  Then cometh he to a city of Samaria, which is called Sychar, near to the parcel of ground that Jacob gave to his son Joseph. Now Jacob’s well was there. Jesus therefore, being wearied with his journey, sat thus on the well: and it was about the sixth hour. There cometh a woman of Samaria to draw water: Jesus saith unto her, Give me to drink. (For his disciples were gone away unto the city to buy meat.) Then saith the woman of Samaria unto him, How is it that thou, being a Jew, askest drink of me, which am a woman of Samaria? for the Jews have no dealings with the Samaritans. Jesus answered and said unto her, If thou knewest the gift of God, and who it is that saith to thee, Give me to drink; thou wouldest have asked of him, and he would have given thee living water. The woman saith unto him, Sir, thou hast nothing to draw with, and the well is deep: from whence then hast thou that living water? Art thou greater than our father Jacob, which gave us the well, and drank thereof himself, and his children, and his cattle? Jesus answered and said unto her, Whosoever drinketh of this water shall thirst again: But whosoever drinketh of the water that I shall give him shall never thirst; but the water that I shall give him shall be in him a well of water springing up into everlasting life.

Water is integral in our lives, insomuch that we need to partake of it regularly in order to survive. Getting water from the well was a daily routine for everyone, but in reality, it only sustains our temporal life. Our precious Lord Jesus Christ is a well who is filled up with living water, and if you desire to live forever, then you must go to Him regularly, and fill up on the things of the Holy Spirit.

John 7:37-39 (KJB)  In the last day, that great day of the feast, Jesus stood and cried, saying, If any man thirst, let him come unto me, and drink. He that believeth on me, as the scripture hath said, out of his belly shall flow rivers of living water. (But this spake he of the Spirit, which they that believe on him should receive: for the Holy Ghost was not yet given; because that Jesus was not yet glorified.)

I have always enjoyed a freezing cold glass of cold water, especially when I get it from a deep well. When I was a child, one of the first things that I did when I got off of the school bus was turn on the outside water faucet so I could get a cold drink from our green garden hose that was stretched across the front lawn. I can remember being so warm on the bus, that I couldn’t wait to quench my thirst when I finally got home. But those who desire eternal life must have a thirst for our Lord Jesus Christ, by filling up from the precious well of our salvation. We must have a great desire to be filled up with the Spiritual water of the teachings of God, and being so needy for it, that we are constantly going back for more. We must thirst for it just like a newborn baby thirsts after milk!

1 Peter 2:1-3 (KJB)  Wherefore laying aside all malice, and all guile, and hypocrisies, and envies, and all evil speakings, As newborn babes, desire the sincere milk of the word, that ye may grow thereby: If so be ye have tasted that the Lord is gracious.

In order to have your hunger satisfied, you will need to reach into the cupboard for something to eat. In order to have your thirst satisfied, you might stop at the grocery store for a cold drink out of their cooler. The point is, that there is a reaction when you are thirsty, because it will cause you to seek out what you need in order to quench it. Obviously, if you hunger and thirst after the things of God, then your soul is going to be filled up!

Matthew 5:6 (KJB)  Blessed are they which do hunger and thirst after righteousness: for they shall be filled.

If you desire living water then you must go to the well!

Jeremiah 29:13 (KJB)  And ye shall seek me, and find me, when ye shall search for me with all your heart.

Isaiah 58:11 (KJB)  And the LORD shall guide thee continually, and satisfy thy soul in drought, and make fat thy bones: and thou shalt be like a watered garden, and like a spring of water, whose waters fail not.

So remember that if somebody drained all of the water out of Big Winnie, none of the critters would survive, because water sustains each of us in this world. But if you want to live forever, then you will need to obtain the water that flows out of the mouth of God, with more intensity and everlasting sustainability, then all of the waters that are going over the,………
