Thoughts of the Day 7/4/26

Morning

John 8:31-36 (KJB) Then said Jesus to those Jews which believed on him, If ye continue in my word, then are ye my disciples indeed; And ye shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free. They answered him, We be Abraham’s seed, and were never in bondage to any man: how sayest thou, Ye shall be made free? Jesus answered them, Verily, verily, I say unto you, Whosoever committeth sin is the servant of sin. And the servant abideth not in the house for ever: but the Son abideth ever. If the Son therefore shall make you free, ye shall be free indeed.

Many people will celebrate Independence Day in this country this weekend, but the truest freedom of all is the freedom from sin. The more that we grow in the teachings of Scripture, the more that God washes us with the Word of Truth. Independence from the power of sin in one’s life is an incredible blessing from God. As a loving and faithful Shepherd, He corrects us, leads and guides us down the narrow path of righteousness, so that we can walk in the brightness of His light.

Evening

John 21:15-17 (KJB) So when they had dined, Jesus saith to Simon Peter, Simon, son of Jonas, lovest thou me more than these? He saith unto him, Yea, Lord; thou knowest that I love thee. He saith unto him, Feed my lambs. He saith to him again the second time, Simon, son of Jonas, lovest thou me? He saith unto him, Yea, Lord; thou knowest that I love thee. He saith unto him, Feed my sheep. He saith unto him the third time, Simon, son of Jonas, lovest thou me? Peter was grieved because he said unto him the third time, Lovest thou me? And he said unto him, Lord, thou knowest all things; thou knowest that I love thee. Jesus saith unto him, Feed my sheep.

The Apostle Peter sinned grievously when he denied the Lord Jesus Christ three times, but he was filled up with overwhelming contrition for what he had done and wept bitterly about it. But the proof of our love towards God, is obedience to His commands, and when Peter sinned three times, Jesus commanded him three times that if he loved Him, to feed His sheep. Bringing forth works that are meet for repentance is the pathway of love towards God, proving the status of our heart towards Him. Although Peter had denied Christ, he went on to keep the commands of the Lord, and was completely restored to Apostleship once again.
