Good morning and welcome in everybody. Today we’re going to take a look at a passage of scripture but before we do that I wanted to tell you a little story.
Over twenty years ago, I built a tiny little shed out of a bunch of free pallets and some old bent up roofing tin. I only had so much lumber available, so the building ended up not being very tall and the sidewalls were only five feet high. When I finally framed in a makeshift door, I constantly hit my head on the frame because it wasn’t very high at all, and for many months I needed to learn how to bow my head, every time that I entered into the shed to milk our goats.
This reminds me of the Christian Life.
Just like entering into the shed, if people really want to enter into eternal life, then they must first learn to humble themselves before God.
1 Peter 5:5-6 (KJB) Likewise, ye younger, submit yourselves unto the elder. Yea, all of you be subject one to another, and be clothed with humility: for God resisteth the proud, and giveth grace to the humble. Humble yourselves therefore under the mighty hand of God, that he may exalt you in due time:
When the weather becomes cold up here in our neck of the woods, people will begin to dig out their winter clothing. A lot of children will wear snow pants to school, to keep warm in the cool winter breeze. But imagine reaching into the closet, and pulling out a jacket of humility, and when you put it on, you become very lowly, meek, and submissive to the will of God. Humility results in faithful obedience to the doctrines of Christ. Moses was referred to as the meekest of all men, and filled up with a humble and obedient heart in the sight of God. In the church you are supposed to be humble before those who are over you in the Lord. There are different levels of authority in the church, and those who have preached the Word of God to you are over you in the Lord, just as the Apostle Paul was Timothy’s authority. You need to be in complete subjection to them, not only for conscience sake but for your own salvation. If you cannot submit to a man of God, it’s impossible to claim to be a Christian. The reason why is because they are the ambassadors of Christ, and the glory of God.
2 Corinthians 8:23 (KJB) Whether any do enquire of Titus, he is my partner and fellowhelper concerning you: or our brethren be enquired of, they are the messengers of the churches, and the glory of Christ.
If you cannot submit to a sincere man of God who has brought you up in the teachings of scripture, then you are outside of the teachings of Christ. If a woman cannot submit to the authority of her own husband, she is a hypocrite and a fraud. An elder is a man who has preached God’s Word to you, and if you cannot submit yourselves to men such as these, then the faith that you profess is non-existent. Without humility and submission to those who are above you in Christ, the only thing that remains is pride, rebellion, defiance and insubordination. This type of attitude is reckless to possess, not only in the church but in society as well.
Sometimes children will rebel against their dad, or even a teacher in a classroom. Sometimes people in the military will rebel against their authorities, and end up being court-martialed. Rebellion is absolutely terrible no matter what form it comes in, but even when those who wield authority are in the wrong, you must always remember, let them be wrong! When you do, the sin abides on them not you. In fact, this is exactly what our precious Lord Jesus did, who allowed Himself to suffer on the cross. When we follow His example, and allow ourselves to suffer in such a manner, we will obtain a better resurrection at the judgment. This means that just as the Apostles will be judging the twelve tribes of Israel, faithful Men of God will be placed in judgment over others later on. This is the Lord’s doing and it is the honor that He has given to each of His faithful servants.
Many people consider the supreme Court as the highest court of this land, and so it is, but in the everlasting country that is coming, everything will be completely turned around, because the Lord Jesus will lift up those who have humbly submitted themselves unto Him while here upon this Earth, and will give them the keys of judgment, beginning here on the Earth, and stretching beyond into the Everlasting Kingdom to come.
1 Peter 4:17 (KJB) For the time is come that judgment must begin at the house of God: and if it first begin at us, what shall the end be of them that obey not the gospel of God?
Matthew 16:19 (KJB) And I will give unto thee the keys of the kingdom of heaven: and whatsoever thou shalt bind on earth shall be bound in heaven: and whatsoever thou shalt loose on earth shall be loosed in heaven.
Revelation 20:4 (KJB) And I saw thrones, and they sat upon them, and judgment was given unto them:…..
God resists the proud, and so will the men of God who are filled up with His Holy Spirit. They will resist all those who rebel against their guidance from the teachings of Holy writ. Men of God are under no obligation to forgive people in the church when they commit such wicked deeds, and then refuse to confess and admit fault. If their arrogance and pride forbids them from repentance towards those whom they have wronged in the church, then they shall be bound unto eternal damnation. Remember that the Apostle Paul did terrible things to the church, but it was done when he was an ignorant unbeliever. Willful sin from those who profess to be Christian, is a completely different territory.
I’ve had numerous people do wicked and evil things to me in this life, and most of them were close relationships and relatives. Most of them professed to be Christian and were even baptized into the faith but you can know for certain that I don’t forgive any of them, not today, nor at God’s day of reckoning. I am not required to do so either, because of their refusal to repent of their evil and demonic activities. I hold them in contempt before God because they have forsaken the path of Christ. They know who they are and so does God, because they are charlatans, liars, and children of the devil.
The Apostle warned the church that forgiveness is only granted unto the humble, and when people go out and sin against others in the church and could care less about repentance towards them, God will not forgive them no matter how much they cry out to Him. This is because they have openly defiled themselves in His sight, and are a complete abomination to scriptural teachings on confession, repentance, and reconciliation with others. In their own pride, they are condemned of themselves.
To humble yourselves under the mighty hand of God, is to humble yourselves before those who have preached to you. It is to submit yourself to those, who have instructed and guided you in the way of righteousness. If you do not possess the humility to do that, then whatever you possess is really not Christianity at all. Maybe to help you learn, I could give you a few chores to do, but I guarantee that the first one that I give you, will be heading out to,….
