Good morning and welcome in everybody. Today we’re going to take a look at a passage of scripture but before we do that I wanted to tell you a little story.
There are many people out in the world who like to participate in activities during which they can seriously harm themselves. I have recently been reading about people who like to dive in underwater caves, and they get so far into them that they become wedged in tiny little crevices and end up suffocating to death. I’ve never really understood why people will put themselves in these types of dangerous situations. They like doing extreme things, but as history teaches us, even a bungee cord can snap, or a parachute can fail to open. Sometimes people will get involved doing these kinds of things just for notoriety, or to receive as many views as possible on the internet. It reminds me of people in a circus who work without a net, or someone who jumps over cars on their motorbike, simply to increase ticket prices to their events. But seeking fame in the eyes of the world is complete vanity. The Lord has granted each of us the air in our lungs, and another day of life on this Earth, and to tempt Him by purposefully hazarding the precious gift that He has given you, is to openly mock Him in His sight.
This reminds me the Christian Life.
Sometimes people like to push their lives to the edge, maybe because they are an adrenaline jockey, or want to prove to others that they aren’t afraid of anything. But what people should really be afraid of is God, because without the fear of Him and repentance from dead works, the only thing that they really possess is a death wish.
Matthew 10:28 (KJB) And fear not them which kill the body, but are not able to kill the soul: but rather fear him which is able to destroy both soul and body in hell.
Sin is going to be punished by God, both now and in eternity, and there are going to be serious consequences for the things that you do during this life. Many people will choose to live their lives in a manner that shows complete disregard for what is sensible and moral, throwing caution to the wind, and not even considering the risks or the outcome for their actions. We are admonished throughout the scriptures to fear God, because only when you understand His divine punishments against sin, will you ever truly repent of the wrongs that you have committed.
Proverbs 16:6 (KJB) By mercy and truth iniquity is purged: and by the fear of the LORD men depart from evil.
If people don’t fear the punishments of God, they are never going to turn away from their sins. This is one of the reasons why false prophets have preached that God doesn’t punish people in a lake of fire. This is because they are heretics who reject the council of scripture, and there is no fear of God before their eyes.
Romans 3:18 (KJB) There is no fear of God before their eyes.
2 Thessalonians 1:6-10 (KJB) Seeing it is a righteous thing with God to recompense tribulation to them that trouble you; And to you who are troubled rest with us, when the Lord Jesus shall be revealed from heaven with his mighty angels, In flaming fire taking vengeance on them that know not God, and that obey not the gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ: Who shall be punished with everlasting destruction from the presence of the Lord, and from the glory of his power; When he shall come to be glorified in his saints, and to be admired in all them that believe (because our testimony among you was believed) in that day.
Death has been abolished through Christ Jesus, because every soul that has ever lived will be raised up to God’s Everlasting judgment. People might try to avoid a court summons, but no one will be able to evade the future Judgment of God. This is because every soul that has ever lived will be raised up to judgment and will enter into eternal life, or into Eternal damnation.
John 5:28-29 (KJB) Marvel not at this: for the hour is coming, in the which all that are in the graves shall hear his voice,.And shall come forth; they that have done good, unto the resurrection of life; and they that have done evil, unto the resurrection of damnation.
Daniel 12:2 (KJB) And many of them that sleep in the dust of the earth shall awake, some to everlasting life, and some to shame and everlasting contempt.
Jesus spoke of a rich man who had no fear of God whatsoever, but he eventually paid the everlasting price for the wicked way that he had treated others while here upon this Earth.
Luke 16:19-31 (KJB) There was a certain rich man, which was clothed in purple and fine linen, and fared sumptuously every day: And there was a certain beggar named Lazarus, which was laid at his gate, full of sores, And desiring to be fed with the crumbs which fell from the rich man’s table: moreover the dogs came and licked his sores. And it came to pass, that the beggar died, and was carried by the angels into Abraham’s bosom: the rich man also died, and was buried; And in hell he lift up his eyes, being in torments, and seeth Abraham afar off, and Lazarus in his bosom. And he cried and said, Father Abraham, have mercy on me, and send Lazarus, that he may dip the tip of his finger in water, and cool my tongue; for I am tormented in this flame. But Abraham said, Son, remember that thou in thy lifetime receivedst thy good things, and likewise Lazarus evil things: but now he is comforted, and thou art tormented. And beside all this, between us and you there is a great gulf fixed: so that they which would pass from hence to you cannot; neither can they pass to us, that would come from thence. Then he said, I pray thee therefore, father, that thou wouldest send him to my father’s house: For I have five brethren; that he may testify unto them, lest they also come into this place of torment. Abraham saith unto him, They have Moses and the prophets; let them hear them. And he said, Nay, father Abraham: but if one went unto them from the dead, they will repent. And he said unto him, If they hear not Moses and the prophets, neither will they be persuaded, though one rose from the dead.
Those who truly are walking in the grace of God, will serve Him with reverence and Godly fear, because they understand in their hearts the things that are going to happen to those who don’t.
Galatians 6:7-8 (KJB) Be not deceived; God is not mocked: for whatsoever a man soweth, that shall he also reap. For he that soweth to his flesh shall of the flesh reap corruption; but he that soweth to the Spirit shall of the Spirit reap life everlasting.
Hebrews 12:28 (KJB) Wherefore we receiving a kingdom which cannot be moved, let us have grace, whereby we may serve God acceptably with reverence and godly fear:
Many people will continue to do extreme things on this Earth and put their own lives in danger, but there is nothing more perilous than endangering your everlasting soul. People will be in one of two places when their days on this Earth have come to an end, either everlasting life, or eternal punishment in a lake of fire, and it comes down to faith in Christ Jesus and repentance from dead works. So make sure that you do wisely while you have the opportunity to do so, otherwise the only thing that you really possess, is a……
