James 2:20-22 (KJB) But wilt thou know, O vain man, that faith without works is dead?
Was not Abraham our father justified by works, when he had offered Isaac his son upon the altar? Seest thou how faith wrought with his works, and by works was faith made perfect?
If you are going to become good at anything in this life, it’s going to require practice. For example, if a piano player is going to perfect a recital piece, they must dedicate their time to practicing the material and putting in some diligent effort. In order to obtain eternal life is going to demand more but just claiming to have faith in Jesus. This is because we must perfect our faith each and every day, which can only happen through steadfast and obedient works towards our precious Savior. Just like Abraham, works are the outward evidence and proof of our faith towards God, and those without them are only deceiving themselves and living lives of religious vanity.

James 2:5 (KJB) Hearken, my beloved brethren, Hath not God chosen the poor of this world rich in faith, and heirs of the kingdom which he hath promised to them that love him?
Each day, many people will spend many hours of the day seeking after how to increase their Earthly wealth, but the love of money is the root of all evil. The disciples were very poor because they spent their time seeking after God rather than the things of this world. It is the poor people of this world who are filled up with faith, because they trust in God enough to know that He can provide them with whatever they might need.
