Thoughts of the day 10/11/26 am

Colossians 3:5 (KJB) Mortify therefore your members which are upon the earth; fornication, uncleanness, inordinate affection, evil concupiscence, and covetousness, which is idolatry:

Inordinate affection is described in numerous places as having an inmoderate craving for something, whatever that may be in one’s life. It is a very strong desire that goes far beyond proper boundaries and then it starts to control a person’s thoughts and activities. In the most simplistic terms, it is to love something a little bit too much, which inevitably results in leading a persons heart away from God. The love of money is by far one of the worst forms of this inordinate desire, because rather than seeking and loving God with a full heart, a person will be consumed with obtaining the riches and wealth of this world. There are thousands of things that someone might love too much, and a lot of them are fairly easy to recognize because they will pull you away from a sincere and close relationship with God.

For example, someone might hear the Word of God taught regularly, and spend time in daily prayer and worship with the Lord, but when hunting season arrives, they will completely forget about God and head out in the woods for weeks on end. When things such as these come inbetween a regular loving and ongoing relationship with God, it’s a sin, because it’s a violation of the first commandment. It’s like a wife who departs her husband, and in complete hypocrisy, continues to claim that she actually loves Him.

Consider King Solomon as another example, who started loving his wives a little bit too much, and began burning incense to strange gods. He had developed an inordinate affection for them because he harkened unto their voice, rather than the voice of God, (which by the way, is the exact same thing that happened in the Garden of Eden.) God knows who truly loves Him, because there is no fooling Him, and when you love anything else in this world more than Him, you can know for certain that you have just stumbled over, an inordinate affection. Distance your hearts from these types of pitfalls and continue to keep yourselves in the love of God.

Thoughts of the day 10/11/26 pm

Psalms 30:4-5 (KJB) Sing unto the LORD, O ye saints of his, and give thanks at the remembrance of his holiness. For his anger endureth but a moment; in his favour is life: weeping may endure for a night, but joy cometh in the morning.

When you were a child, did you ever try to obey and please your dad in everything that you did? If so, you were most likely walking in his favor. Favor is defined as being in a state of approval with somebody else, and when we submit and obey the teachings of our faith, we can walk in the blessings and the favor of God. God rewards faithful obedience to His calling and purpose, but His face is against those who do evil, whether they claim to be a Christian or not. Be not deceived, repentance from sin is required in order to obtain eternal life, so turn away from all of your iniquities, and walk in the favor of God!
