Good morning and welcome in everybody. Today, we are going to take a look at a passage of scripture, but before we do that, I wanted to tell you a little story.
Are any of you old enough to remember when we used to have those large black chalkboards in the front of the classrooms? How many of you became so disruptive during school, that the instructor gave you a big box of chalk and told you to write down one hundred time that you will not talk during class. Later on that day when you had finally completed the task, the teacher told you to sit back down in your seat, and then cleaned the entire blackboard with a brand new eraser.
This reminds me of the Christian Life.
Each of us have a litany of sins that we have committed even from our birth, but God doesn’t even remember them after we humbly confess them and are reconciled unto Himself. He wipes the slate clean, just like the deeds were never committed. To remember something means to bring a thought or past event back into your mind, or to continue to be aware of it. For example, you might constantly think about something that happened a long time ago during your life, but just like deleting the memory from a hard drive, God wants to completely forget about all of the past sins that we have committed. When God forgives us, He ceases to have any remembrance of the event, and just like erasing a chalkboard, God wants to cast all of our sins into the depths of the sea, never to be spoken of again. Glory to God for His Mercy!
Psalms 25:6-7 (KJB) Remember, O LORD, thy tender mercies and thy lovingkindnesses; for they have been ever of old. Remember not the sins of my youth, nor my transgressions: according to thy mercy remember thou me for thy goodness’ sake, O LORD.
Sometimes it can be hard to forgive and then forget about the grieveous and sinful things that people have done to you, but it is something that the gospel demands we must do. Sometimes during a marriage, a couple will sin against each other, but after they eventually make up and forgive one another, they will remind each other at the supper table of the sinful things that they already claimed to have forgiven them for. It’s almost like twisting in the knife once again, after it was already removed. People need to listen really closely to what I’m telling you today. If you cannot forgive and completely forget about a sinful incident, then you never really forgave the person in your heart in the first place. That’s not forgiveness, it’s a lie of the devil. We are not commanded in the Scriptures to forgive everybody, only the ones who sincerely apologize and confess their faults. If they don’t love their neighbor enough to do that, then they are outside of the doctrines of Divine charity, and will eventually be damned by God for their cold and bitter hearts.
You cannot obtain forgiveness without confession, and you cannot be truly forgiving if you will never forget the offenses that were committed. This is where the heretical statement came from, “you can forgive, but you can never forget.” People who teach such things are the children of the devil. This is because their false doctrines go completely against the way that God treats us, when he blots out all of our iniquities, from the memory banks of His Merciful Mind.
Psalms 51:1 (KJB) Have mercy upon me, O God, according to thy lovingkindness: according unto the multitude of thy tender mercies blot out my transgressions.
Isaiah 43:25 (KJB) I, even I, am he that blotteth out thy transgressions for mine own sake, and will not remember thy sins.
When we look at Judaism, and their sacrificial system, there is a remembrance of sin made every year. But just like taking an eraser and wiping away the writings of all of our transgressions against God, the blood of Christ Jesus removes them completely from our hearts and our minds. This is the New Covenant of God in Christianity, when our sins and our iniquities He remembers no more.
Hebrews 10:1-18 (KJB) For the law having a shadow of good things to come, and not the very image of the things, can never with those sacrifices which they offered year by year continually make the comers thereunto perfect. For then would they not have ceased to be offered? because that the worshippers once purged should have had no more conscience of sins. But in those sacrifices there is a remembrance again made of sins every year. For it is not possible that the blood of bulls and of goats should take away sins. Wherefore when he cometh into the world, he saith, Sacrifice and offering thou wouldest not, but a body hast thou prepared me: In burnt offerings and sacrifices for sin thou hast had no pleasure. Then said I, Lo, I come (in the volume of the book it is written of me,) to do thy will, O God. Above when he said, Sacrifice and offering and burnt offerings and offering for sin thou wouldest not, neither hadst pleasure therein; which are offered by the law; Then said he, Lo, I come to do thy will, O God. He taketh away the first, that he may establish the second. By the which will we are sanctified through the offering of the body of Jesus Christ once for all. And every priest standeth daily ministering and offering oftentimes the same sacrifices, which can never take away sins: But this man, after he had offered one sacrifice for sins for ever, sat down on the right hand of God; from henceforth expecting till his enemies be made his footstool. For by one offering he hath perfected for ever them that are sanctified. Whereof the Holy Ghost also is a witness to us: for after that he had said before, This is the covenant that I will make with them after those days, saith the Lord, I will put my laws into their hearts, and in their minds will I write them; and their sins and iniquities will I remember no more. Now where remission of these is, there is no more offering for sin.
Hebrews 8:12-13 (KJB) For I will be merciful to their unrighteousness, and their sins and their iniquities will I remember no more. In that he saith, A new covenant, he hath made the first old. Now that which decayeth and waxeth old is ready to vanish away.
Psalms 79:8 (KJB) O remember not against us former iniquities: let thy tender mercies speedily prevent us: for we are brought very low.
The prophecy of Micah was fulfilled in the death and resurrection of Jesus Christ.
Micah 7:18-19 (KJB) Who is a God like unto thee, that pardoneth iniquity, and passeth by the transgression of the remnant of his heritage? he retaineth not his anger for ever, because he delighteth in mercy. He will turn again, he will have compassion upon us; he will subdue our iniquities; and thou wilt cast all their sins into the depths of the sea.
So when you have the opportunity to read the parable of the prodigal son, he obtained forgiveness with his dad because he repented and confessed his sins to him. If people are too proud to do that towards those whom they sinned against, they will lose their souls in the process, and be cast into an everlasting lake of fire. This is because in their pride, they have mocked the doctrines of God, and become a kindred spirit to the works of the devil. So repent, and confess your faults quickly to those who you have wronged, because when people humble themselves enough to do that, God can erase all of the sins that they have committed, and begin cleaning off,…..
