Good morning and welcome in everybody. Today, we are going to take a look at a passage of scripture, but before we do that, I wanted to tell you a little story.
When I was in elementary school, I used to get off the school bus at home, walk into the house and get changed into my play clothes, and then run out into the woods to play. We were surrounded by trees on our property, and for a period of time I really enjoyed climbing them. No safety ropes, no special harnesses, just shimmying up one of the highest ones I could find using my knees and climbing up all of the branches. I would get almost all the way to the top, and then you could look around the surrounding area with an incredible view of the landscape. But someone came out of the house one day and was yelling for me, so I yelled back from way up in the tree, but when they saw me that high up, they screamed at me to get down immediately. When I think back to it, if I had fallen out one of those trees, I probably would have killed myself.
This reminds me of the Christian Life.
That summer could have ended drastically, but you know what? At that age I really didn’t think about what I was doing at all. This is because I had no fear of the consequences. Fear is a good quality to possess, because it can keep us safe, especially with God.
Hebrews 12:28-29 (KJB) Wherefore we receiving a kingdom which cannot be moved, let us have grace, whereby we may serve God acceptably with reverence and godly fear: For our God is a consuming fire.
As we draw nearer to the return of our Lord Jesus Christ, it’s going to get really rough, far worse than it ever was in the days of Noah before the flood. I’m sure many people are going to claim that they love one another and everything is going great, but the truth is they have no fear of God whatsoever. Many of these people claim to be Christian, but they could really care less about the impending Divine repercussions for their own impenitence. Less than 100 years ago the terminology “turn or burn” was commonplace in churches, but is now considered offensive by a world that has no fear of the punishments that are coming in the day of God’s wrath. There is a huge form of false Christianity that is overtaking the world, filled up with the same types of impenitent people that are no different than the people John the Baptist rebuked 2,000 years ago.
Matthew 3:7-8 (KJB) But when he saw many of the Pharisees and Sadducees come to his baptism, he said unto them, O generation of vipers, who hath warned you to flee from the wrath to come? Bring forth therefore fruits meet for repentance:
The Christian life is about repentance from dead works, but if people who claim to be followers of Christ are not going to come into submission to God’s will, then they will eventually be cut off with the rest of the impenitent. God does not play favorites, even if they claim to be believers.
Romans 11:21-22 (KJB) For if God spared not the natural branches, take heed lest he also spare not thee. Behold therefore the goodness and severity of God: on them which fell, severity; but toward thee, goodness, if thou continue in his goodness: otherwise thou also shalt be cut off.
People who say they can’t lose their salvation are out of their minds. What do they think, that they are special? There will be plenty of ministers, priests and even preachers that are going to head straight into the lake of fire because of their lack of love for the Lord, and humble submission to His will. So either repent of your sins or reap His wrath. Those who mock this God will mock them, because they have no fear of God.
Matthew 7:21-23 (KJB) Not every one that saith unto me, Lord, Lord, shall enter into the kingdom of heaven; but he that doeth the will of my Father which is in heaven. Many will say to me in that day, Lord, Lord, have we not prophesied in thy name? and in thy name have cast out devils? and in thy name done many wonderful works? And then will I profess unto them, I never knew you: depart from me, ye that work iniquity.
The fear of God is preached throughout the entire Old Testament, including the Psalms and Proverbs. It is preached by our Lord Jesus in the Gospels. It is preached throughout the entire New Testament to the church. It is the fear of God that causes somebody to depart from sinful living.
Proverbs 16:6 (KJB) By mercy and truth iniquity is purged: and by the fear of the LORD men depart from evil.
Proverbs 14:16 (KJB) A wise man feareth, and departeth from evil: but the fool rageth, and is confident.
Psalms 55:19 (KJB) God shall hear, and afflict them, even he that abideth of old. Selah. Because they have no changes, therefore they fear not God.
Romans 3:18 (KJB) There is no fear of God before their eyes.
Moses is filled with the fear of God.
Hebrews 12:21 (KJB) And so terrible was the sight, that Moses said, I exceedingly fear and quake
Psalms 89:7 (KJB) God is greatly to be feared in the assembly of the saints, and to be had in reverence of all them that are about him.
A wife who does not submit herself to her husband and abide in her marriage, has no fear of God whatsoever.
Ephesians 5:21-24 (KJB) Submitting yourselves one to another in the fear of God. Wives, submit yourselves unto your own husbands, as unto the Lord. For the husband is the head of the wife, even as Christ is the head of the church: and he is the saviour of the body. Therefore as the church is subject unto Christ, so let the wives be to their own husbands in every thing.
When we fear God, He will pour out His vengeance against those who do evil towards us.
Isaiah 35:4 (KJB) Say to them that are of a fearful heart, Be strong, fear not: behold, your God will come with vengeance, even God with a recompence; he will come and save you.
We need not fear what man can do to us, but we must certainly fear God.
Matthew 10:28 (KJB) And fear not them which kill the body, but are not able to kill the soul: but rather fear him which is able to destroy both soul and body in hell.
2 Timothy 1:7 (KJB) For God hath not given us the spirit of fear; but of power, and of love, and of a sound mind.
We are commanded to fear God.
1 Peter 2:17 (KJB) Honour all men. Love the brotherhood. Fear God. Honour the king.
People need to grow up in the truth of the Christian faith, and understand the severe repercussions and consequences with God for rebelling against His calling and purpose. We must possess the proper fear of God, and never be as children who fearlessly imperil their own souls, by casting caution to the wind and climbing up another,……
