Good morning and welcome in everybody. Today, we are going to take a look at a passage of scripture from the Book of Psalms.
Psalms 63:3-4 (KJB) Because thy lovingkindness is better than life, my lips shall praise thee. Thus will I bless thee while I live: I will lift up my hands in thy name.
Through the incredible gift of God’s grace, sinners can come forward and receive complete remission for their past, by being baptized into the name of Christ Jesus. When this happens, the heavy burden of all of the wrongs that we have ever committed are lifted off of our shoulders and completely forgiven by God. Many people cannot understand how God can forgive such wretched people, but it’s not that we loved God, but that He first loved us, even laying down His own life on the cross as an atonement for our sins.
Through baptism, we pass from death unto life, because the wages of sin is death, and the gift of God in Christ Jesus is life. The mercy of God is such an incredible treasure that the psalmist refers to His lovingkindness as better than life itself! But when we become a Christian, you must always remember to abide in the love of God, which is done by transforming into a new creature of faithfulness and obedience to the will of God. After all, God has forgiven us for all of our wretched deeds, and we owe Him our lifelong service of gratitude and obedience to the faith for His namesake.
Romans 12:1-2 (KJB) I beseech you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God, that ye present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable unto God, which is your reasonable service. And be not conformed to this world: but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind, that ye may prove what is that good, and acceptable, and perfect, will of God.
But as a Christian, sin can have devastating effects on one’s relationship with God. God loved us, and laid down His own life for us, but then people are so cruel in return to Him, that they treat Him with disrespect, dishonor, and complete disobedience. To treat the Lord in this manner, after all of the love and mercy that He has extended to this sinful world, is the act of rebellious and wicked reprobates. It’s one thing to sin as a complete ignorant unbeliever, but it’s completely another to sin against the love of God, which is exactly what a Christian does, when they rebel against the teachings of Scripture.
Hebrews 10:26-31 (KJB) For if we sin wilfully after that we have received the knowledge of the truth, there remaineth no more sacrifice for sins, But a certain fearful looking for of judgment and fiery indignation, which shall devour the adversaries. He that despised Moses’ law died without mercy under two or three witnesses: Of how much sorer punishment, suppose ye, shall he be thought worthy, who hath trodden under foot the Son of God, and hath counted the blood of the covenant, wherewith he was sanctified, an unholy thing, and hath done despite unto the Spirit of grace? For we know him that hath said, Vengeance belongeth unto me, I will recompense, saith the Lord. And again, The Lord shall judge his people. It is a fearful thing to fall into the hands of the living God.
So when you become a Christian, you receive God’s love towards you and are forgiven for your sins. The Lord Jesus in His kindness towards us has met us halfway, but to eventually enter into eternal life we must meet Him the rest of the way. What I mean by that is you must love Him in return, which can only be proven through your faithful submission to His will. Those who don’t love Jesus enough to keep the commands of scripture are going to come up short on Judgment Day.
John 14:21-24 (KJB) He that hath my commandments, and keepeth them, he it is that loveth me: and he that loveth me shall be loved of my Father, and I will love him, and will manifest myself to him. Judas saith unto him, not Iscariot, Lord, how is it that thou wilt manifest thyself unto us, and not unto the world? Jesus answered and said unto him, If a man love me, he will keep my words: and my Father will love him, and we will come unto him, and make our abode with him. He that loveth me not keepeth not my sayings: and the word which ye hear is not mine, but the Father’s which sent me.
Can you fall out of favor of the love of God? Absolutely, simply because God has showered His kindness and mercies upon you, and then treat Him with contempt and disdain because of your own rebellion against His will. These same people will claim that God loves them, but that’s not enough to get to heaven. If you don’t love the Lord enough to change your ways and repent from dead works, you will be damned with everybody else no matter if you claim to be a Christian or not. This is spoken up throughout the New Testament. You either repent of your sins or you will perish with the rest.
Psalms 55:19 (KJB) God shall hear, and afflict them, even he that abideth of old. Selah. Because they have no changes, therefore they fear not God.
1 Corinthians 16:22 (KJB) If any man love not the Lord Jesus Christ, let him be Anathema Maranatha.
Jude 1:20-21 (KJB) But ye, beloved, building up yourselves on your most holy faith, praying in the Holy Ghost, Keep yourselves in the love of God, looking for the mercy of our Lord Jesus Christ unto eternal life.
The key to walking in the lovingkindness of God is repentance, because if that never happens, then you are outside of His favor and blessings. The Lord Jesus who loved this world by shedding His own blood on the cross, will also condemn them, simply because they really never loved Him enough to walk in the will of God.
Matthew 7:21-23 (KJB) Not every one that saith unto me, Lord, Lord, shall enter into the kingdom of heaven; but he that doeth the will of my Father which is in heaven. Many will say to me in that day, Lord, Lord, have we not prophesied in thy name? and in thy name have cast out devils? and in thy name done many wonderful works? And then will I profess unto them, I never knew you: depart from me, ye that work iniquity.
You never want to spurn God’s love, but completely submit yourself unto Him with an obedient heart; being thankful for everything that He has done and proving it by your actions. God already proved to this world that He loved us, now it is your responsibility to love Him in return, by departing from iniquity and walking in the light. Of all the things that you could ever possess, there is one thing that is greater than life itself. It is knowing that you are walking in the perfect will of God, obtained favor in His sight, and being a blessed recipient of,……
