Thoughts of the Day 5/29/26

Morning

2 Corinthians 5:18-20 (KJB) And all things are of God, who hath reconciled us to himself by Jesus Christ, and hath given to us the ministry of reconciliation; To wit, that God was in Christ, reconciling the world unto himself, not imputing their trespasses unto them; and hath committed unto us the word of reconciliation. Now then we are ambassadors for Christ, as though God did beseech you by us: we pray you in Christ’s stead, be ye reconciled to God.

Reconciliation is a huge doctrine in the Christian faith, and is defined as the process of restoring friendly relationships between people who have been involved in a dispute. It is to bring back into harmony and friendly relationships, people who have been at enmity with each other. The Apostle Paul wanted people to be reconciled unto God, which happens through faith in Christ Jesus, and repentance from sin. We can be reconciled unto Him through His Mercy, but it requires confessing and turning away from sin. In the parable of the prodigal son, when he got himself involved in wicked living, he eventually repented, completely walked away from that lifestyle and then returned back home. Because of his change of heart, he was eventually reconciled to his dad. So you see, contrition and repentance must happen first, in order to be reconciled unto others. When you wrong somebody in the church, or you do something evil to your neighbor, repentance must happen towards them with a contrite and penitent heart. You must be quick to admit faults, and when that happens, reconciliation can take place through their forgiveness and mercy. Likewise, we can be reconciled to God through Christ Jesus, but you must repent or you will perish. So make it right with those whom you have wronged, and humble yourselves in the sight of God, lest the hard heart of your own impenitence condemns you to an everlasting lake of fire.

Evening

2 Corinthians 6:1 (KJB) We then, as workers together with him, beseech you also that ye receive not the grace of God in vain.

For many years I have taken my children out four wheeling in the woods in order to find some mushrooms for the supper table. But after searching for many hours on end, sometimes we have come home without any. Sometimes people will go out fishing, but after spending many hours on the lake, they will come home empty-handed. Something that is done in vain is purposeless, ineffective, and doesn’t produce any results. A huge amount of people will try to enter into eternal life, even baptized Christians who have had Holy Communion, but will end up being turned away at Judgment Day. This is because they received the grace of God in vain, which means that they got forgiven for their sins at one time, but then they never feared the Lord enough to repent from dead works. Those who receive the grace of God and then treat God’s loving gift of mercy in such a manner are going to reap God’s punishment, whether they claim to be a Christian or not. These people are wolves in sheep’s clothing, who use the grace of God as a license to sin. Without repentance, they will be cast into an everlasting lake of fire, one that will never be quenched, which is a just reward for all those who treat the riches of God’s grace in such a worthless and insignificant manner. Woe unto them all!
