Good morning and welcome in everyone. Today, we are going to take a look at a passage of scripture, but before we do that, I wanted to tell you a little story.
If you ever get a chance to get up to Orr, Minnesota, you will find a large lake that stretches well over 11,000 acres in size. It’s known as Pelican Lake, and I have done a lot of fishing up there over the last forty years. It is a wonderful lake with over 50 Islands and many miles of pristine lakeshore and water. But one thing that I have always found amazing about this lake is the plethora of different species of fish that can be caught from it. It’s filled up with walleye, bass, crappies, bluegill, northern pike, perch, and many others, and it all depends on what type that you are looking for.
This reminds me of the Christian life.
Most fishermen are very particular about what they eat. Many of them want to catch walleye, so when they reel in a large Northern pike or a rock bass into their net, they will simply take it off the hook and cast them right back into the lake again. God is the same way, because He is going to pick the people He wants to keep, and the rest will be cast away forever.
Matthew 13:47-51 (KJB) Again, the kingdom of heaven is like unto a net, that was cast into the sea, and gathered of every kind: Which, when it was full, they drew to shore, and sat down, and gathered the good into vessels, but cast the bad away. So shall it be at the end of the world: the angels shall come forth, and sever the wicked from among the just, And shall cast them into the furnace of fire: there shall be wailing and gnashing of teeth. Jesus saith unto them, Have ye understood all these things? They say unto him, Yea, Lord.
Fishermen will cast away the fish that they don’t want, but this is exactly what God is going to do on Judgment Day. He is going to pick the ones who repented of their dead works, and walked according to His will. But all of the hard-hearted, impenitent workers of iniquity are going to be thrown into an everlasting lake of fire, reserved for the devil and his angels.
Romans 2:5-11 (KJB) But after thy hardness and impenitent heart treasurest up unto thyself wrath against the day of wrath and revelation of the righteous judgment of God; Who will render to every man according to his deeds: To them who by patient continuance in well doing seek for glory and honour and immortality, eternal life: But unto them that are contentious, and do not obey the truth, but obey unrighteousness, indignation and wrath, Tribulation and anguish, upon every soul of man that doeth evil, of the Jew first, and also of the Gentile; But glory, honour, and peace, to every man that worketh good, to the Jew first, and also to the Gentile: For there is no respect of persons with God.
The reason why some professing Christians are not going to be in heaven is simply because they never bothered to repent of their own sins. They never really transformed inside of their heart, and went through the change in their life that is required to enter into eternal life.
Matthew 7:21-23 (KJB) Not every one that saith unto me, Lord, Lord, shall enter into the kingdom of heaven; but he that doeth the will of my Father which is in heaven. Many will say to me in that day, Lord, Lord, have we not prophesied in thy name? and in thy name have cast out devils? and in thy name done many wonderful works? And then will I profess unto them, I never knew you: depart from me, ye that work iniquity.
But just like there are many different types of dishes that are in your kitchen cupboard, some of them are reserved for honorable use during special events. Others, like Styrofoam cups and plates, were only created to be taken and destroyed. Even fishermen will pick out the best fish to mount on their trophy wall, but the rest of them will cast away.
2 Timothy 2:19-20 (KJB) Nevertheless the foundation of God standeth sure, having this seal, The Lord knoweth them that are his. And, Let every one that nameth the name of Christ depart from iniquity. But in a great house there are not only vessels of gold and of silver, but also of wood and of earth; and some to honour, and some to dishonour.
2 Peter 2:12 (KJB) But these, as natural brute beasts, made to be taken and destroyed, speak evil of the things that they understand not; and shall utterly perish in their own corruption;
The Lord knows everything, and can see deep into the soul of every man. He knows those who are serving Him from the heart, and He knows those who are filled up with the hidden works of hypocrisy and darkness. God is going to raise up His humble and obedient sheep, but all of the wolves in sheep’s clothing shall be cast down to the ground.
Psalms 147:6 (KJB) The LORD lifteth up the meek: he casteth the wicked down to the ground.
James 4:6 (KJB) …..Wherefore he saith, God resisteth the proud, but giveth grace unto the humble.
Matthew 23:12 (KJB) And whosoever shall exalt himself shall be abased; and he that shall humble himself shall be exalted.
The Apostles warned the church not to be deceived, because it will require obedience to the will of God to receive the blessings of God.
James 1:21-25 (KJB) Wherefore lay apart all filthiness and superfluity of naughtiness, and receive with meekness the engrafted word, which is able to save your souls. But be ye doers of the word, and not hearers only, deceiving your own selves. For if any be a hearer of the word, and not a doer, he is like unto a man beholding his natural face in a glass: For he beholdeth himself, and goeth his way, and straightway forgetteth what manner of man he was. But whoso looketh into the perfect law of liberty, and continueth therein, he being not a forgetful hearer, but a doer of the work, this man shall be blessed in his deed.
Someday the true sheep of God are going to be separated from the goats forever, when He saves the penitent and casts away the wicked. It’s like keeping your favorite species of fish and putting them into the livewell, and then throwing all of the rest away, every time that you venture out onto,…..
