The Lost Sea

Good morning and welcome to everybody.  Today, we are going to take a look at a passage of scripture, but before we do that, I wanted to tell you a little story.

Back in 1905, in the Great Smoky mountains of Sweetwater Tennessee, a young boy named Ben Sands was doing some exploring in the Craighead Caverns. But while he was looking around, he managed to squeeze through a very narrow passageway and discovered a huge underground lake. It has since then become known as the Lost Sea, and is listed in the Guinness Book of world records as America’s largest underground lake. Apparently it is located about 140 ft below ground level and maintains a constant 58°. After the young man’s discovery, the entrance that he had found to the lake was eventually obscured by water levels, and a lot of people didn’t even believe what he had found until later on somewhere in the 1960s. The lake is approximately 800 ft long by 220 ft wide, and is well stocked with some of the largest Rainbow trout in North America. It is a registered national landmark, but under private ownership which provides tours on a regular basis. So if you’re going to go take a look for yourself, just make sure that you leave your fishing rod at home, because fishing is strictly prohibited.

This reminds me of the Christian Life.

For many years, people walked around Tennessee, and had no idea what was deep underneath them, because it was completely hidden from their view. But things have a way of eventually being found out. People’s hearts are the same way, because deep down inside the caverns of their soul, many people are filled up with all of the hidden works of darkness.  But just like the Lost Sea was eventually discovered, the evil works of men are going to be revealed, for the truth shall conquer lies, and the darkness will be exposed, and their folly shall become known unto all men.

Matthew 10:26 (KJB)  Fear them not therefore: for there is nothing covered, that shall not be revealed; and hid, that shall not be known.

All around this world are any people who are involved in one giant cover up. They are involved with the evil works of darkness and don’t want the things that they are doing to come into the light, lest they be exposed for the wicked person that they actually are.

John 3:20-21 (KJB)  For every one that doeth evil hateth the light, neither cometh to the light, lest his deeds should be reproved. But he that doeth truth cometh to the light, that his deeds may be made manifest, that they are wrought in God.

Whenever the evil works of darkness are exposed, it is made manifest by those who are filled up with the light.

Ephesians 5:11-13 (KJB)  And have no fellowship with the unfruitful works of darkness, but rather reprove them. For it is a shame even to speak of those things which are done of them in secret. But all things that are reproved are made manifest by the light: for whatsoever doth make manifest is light.

Jesus openly reproved the wicked works of darkness in the religious leaders of His day.

John 8:42-45 (KJB)  Jesus said unto them, If God were your Father, ye would love me: for I proceeded forth and came from God; neither came I of myself, but he sent me. Why do ye not understand my speech? even because ye cannot hear my word. Ye are of your father the devil, and the lusts of your father ye will do. He was a murderer from the beginning, and abode not in the truth, because there is no truth in him. When he speaketh a lie, he speaketh of his own: for he is a liar, and the father of it. And because I tell you the truth, ye believe me not.

Some people who came out to hear Jesus preach were complete deceivers. Instead of listening to Him in order to grow in their faith, they were only seeking to find something in His speech that they could use against Him. The motives of their hearts were not led by a sincere desire for Spiritual education, but rather by hatred, jealousy and envy, something that even Pilate recognized when Jesus was delivered up to him. The Lord openly rebuked all of their hidden works of hypocrisy.

Matthew 22:15-21 (KJB)  Then went the Pharisees, and took counsel how they might entangle him in his talk. And they sent out unto him their disciples with the Herodians, saying, Master, we know that thou art true, and teachest the way of God in truth, neither carest thou for any man: for thou regardest not the person of men. Tell us therefore, What thinkest thou? Is it lawful to give tribute unto Caesar, or not? But Jesus perceived their wickedness, and said, Why tempt ye me, ye hypocrites? Shew me the tribute money. And they brought unto him a penny. And he saith unto them, Whose is this image and superscription? They say unto him, Caesar’s. Then saith he unto them, Render therefore unto Caesar the things which are Caesar’s; and unto God the things that are God’s.

The Apostle Paul was filled with up with the light, and exposed the wicked deeds that were going on in the Corinthian Church.

1 Corinthians 5:1-8 (KJB)  It is reported commonly that there is fornication among you, and such fornication as is not so much as named among the Gentiles, that one should have his father’s wife. And ye are puffed up, and have not rather mourned, that he that hath done this deed might be taken away from among you. For I verily, as absent in body, but present in spirit, have judged already, as though I were present, concerning him that hath so done this deed, In the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, when ye are gathered together, and my spirit, with the power of our Lord Jesus Christ, To deliver such an one unto Satan for the destruction of the flesh, that the spirit may be saved in the day of the Lord Jesus. Your glorying is not good. Know ye not that a little leaven leaveneth the whole lump? Purge out therefore the old leaven, that ye may be a new lump, as ye are unleavened. For even Christ our passover is sacrificed for us: Therefore let us keep the feast, not with old leaven, neither with the leaven of malice and wickedness; but with the unleavened bread of sincerity and truth.

People can forget the idea that they are going to take it to the grave with them, because when they are resurrected at the judgment, everything will be rewound just like a VCR tape. All the hidden things that people were unaware of are going to be played back for everyone to see, and what a day that is going to be!

1 Corinthians 4:5 (KJB)  Therefore judge nothing before the time, until the Lord come, who both will bring to light the hidden things of darkness, and will make manifest the counsels of the hearts: and then shall every man have praise of God.

2 Timothy 3:8-9 (KJB)  Now as Jannes and Jambres withstood Moses, so do these also resist the truth: men of corrupt minds, reprobate concerning the faith. But they shall proceed no further: for their folly shall be manifest unto all men, as their’s also was.

Luke 12:1-2 (KJB)…….Beware ye of the leaven of the Pharisees, which is hypocrisy. For there is nothing covered, that shall not be revealed; neither hid, that shall not be known.

The truth is going to come out no matter how much people try to hide it, because eventually things are going to be discovered, just like,……
