Thoughts of the day 8/9/26 am

1 Corinthians 12:29-31 (KJB) Are all apostles? are all prophets? are all teachers? are all workers of miracles? Have all the gifts of healing? do all speak with tongues? do all interpret? But covet earnestly the best gifts: and yet shew I unto you a more excellent way.

A lot of collectors will seek after a specific group of coins, and will seek diligently for all of them until they have the entire group as a complete set. But this is the same way that we need to feel about the Spiritual gifts of God. To covet means to strongly want or desire something, and rather than coveting after the things of this world, we should have a great desire for the things of God. An art collector might spend many years of their life trying to obtain each of the paintings from a specific artist, but as a Christian, we should desire all of the gifts of the Holy Spirit in the same manner. Rather than settling for just one of them, we should desire them all, in order to complete the entire Spiritual collection of God!

Thoughts of the day 8/9/26 pm

1 Corinthians 15:1-2 (KJB) Moreover, brethren, I declare unto you the gospel which I preached unto you, which also ye have received, and wherein ye stand; By which also ye are saved, if ye keep in memory what I preached unto you, unless ye have believed in vain.

When you believe something in vain, it never produces any results. For example, you might claim that it is going to rain this afternoon, but if you never get up to shut your truck windows, then you really didn’t believe at all. You might claim that there will be a hard frost overnight, but if you never cover the garden, then any faith that you professed is void. When you sincerely believe in Christ Jesus, then actions are going to follow, such as repentance, contrition, turning away from the works of the flesh, and walking in obedience to our precious Lord. This is why James taught that faith without works is dead. Jesus died so that we could have forgiveness, but we are justified by our works, just as Abraham was. To be saved eternally requires the works of transformation, and turning into a brand new creature of obedience towards Christ Jesus, because if your life doesn’t manifest these qualities, then any faith that you profess is vain.
