Sex and Marriage Pt.2

Good morning and welcome in everybody. Today, we are going to continue looking at a passage of scripture from the book of 1st Corinthians.

1 Corinthians 7:10-11 (KJB)  And unto the married I command, yet not I, but the Lord, Let not the wife depart from her husband: But and if she depart, let her remain unmarried, or be reconciled to her husband: and let not the husband put away his wife.

First of all, women are not supposed to depart from their husbands for any reason. If she claims that he committed adultery or some other sins against her and then chooses to leave him, she turns herself into a hypocrite, because she sins herself by violating this command of the Lord Jesus Christ. That is an incredibly proud and self-righteous thing to do to a husband who has remained by their side, no matter what sins either of them might have committed against each other. Some people think that adultery is a worse sin than others, but all sins are equal in the eyes of God. If a man had to come home to a wife who chewed him out for some reason, that is also a sin. A Christian woman must fear and revere the man that God has placed as the authority figure in the home, whether he is a believer or not. Divorce was suffered in the Old Testament according to the law, but we are no longer under the law. After the death and resurrection of Christ Jesus, the New Testament began, and in the New Covenant, it is forbidden for a woman to depart much less divorce her husband. This is because it violates the mandates for mercy, forbearance and divine charity. Charity never faileth, and if a wife leaves and divorces her husband, the charity that she once possessed for him grows cold, which is a violation of the entire Christian faith. The same thing happens when the hearts of people in the church turn cold, and then they walk off on Christ Jesus and run right back out into the world once again.

Many women will try to justify leaving their husband’s side for all kinds of different reasons, but in the end they are just as big a sinner as he is. There are all kinds of things that can happen during a marriage, but if they are going to last, it will require long-suffering and patience. I’ll make it very simple for you young people, you need to grow up and understand your own weaknesses and those of your spouse, and suffer the wrongs that are committed against you. A marriage is very much like an infant that comes forth out of the womb, but it has a lot of growing to do, and it certainly doesn’t happen overnight. Some people feel that they are an adult when they become eighteen, but they don’t actually mature in their heart until they are well into their forties. Marriage is like an apple seed that you plant in the soil, but you must be extremely patient until it grows into fruition. Marriages can take a long time to perfect, but they can last the test of time through the faithful application of biblical principles, such as suffering, patience, and mercy.

Anybody can destroy a marriage at the flick of a pen, but those who profess to be Christian and do this fall into the ranks of an unbeliever. A woman who has left her husband is a sinner, and many of them won’t accept that fact because the devil has ensnared her heart. Like a proud pharisee, she thinks that she is somehow more righteous than him, and becomes filled with bitterness and animosity towards the one who she chose to abide with for the rest of her life. When a woman chooses to be baptized into the Christian Life, she is forbidden from these activities, because the Lord Jesus hates when women depart their husband, and makes this very clear, even in the Old Testament.

Jeremiah 3:20 (KJB)  Surely as a wife treacherously departeth from her husband, so have ye dealt treacherously with me, O house of Israel, saith the LORD.

When she leaves her husband, it is exactly like a teenager running away from home. They don’t want to deal with the authority of their dad, so they take off on him instead. When a woman departs from her husband she usurps His authority, but just as Solomon was a king, the husband is the king over his household, and a wife must obey him in everything, whether he is right or wrong. He certainly might make some mistakes along the way but so does a wife, and if she’s going to be that unmerciful to him, Christ will be unmerciful to her at the judgment, of that you can be sure.

If she decides to run off with his children, she is taking from him the seed of his flesh. They are not her seed, but his, and by her rebellious and disobedient actions she teaches young children by her example that it’s okay to rebel against the authority of her husband and the will of God. Her sin is compounded many times over, and the only mark that she leaves upon this Earth is one of complete and utter shame. Like I have said numerous times in the past, there are so many downsides to divorce that I have no idea why anybody would be foolish enough to get involved with it, and the worst part of all, is the little children, who had nothing to do with it at all. They have to suffer because a man and a wife won’t suffer the faults of each other, and that is completely selfish and wicked.

I’m directing a lot of this at the women today, but you men are not to divorce your spouse for any reason. In the Name of Christ Jesus do not do it. I have known many couples who have suffered for a few years, but later on there was light at the end of the tunnel, and their love grew because of their patience with each other. God is patient with each of us, because he could have destroyed the world today, but He is waiting for people to repent, which is the same way that you must treat your spouse.

Help them in their struggles, rather than hurt them.

Support them, rather than abandoning them.

Abide in your commitment, rather than divorcing them.

It doesn’t matter how amicable people might say their divorce was, it is a sin to break up a marriage. Whoever encouraged it and supported their decision sins against Christ Jesus, and is completely outside the teachings of the Christian faith. But these people are going to suffer because they are going to reap what they have sown, and there is no fear of God before their eyes.

So a word of wisdom to all of the wives today, hold your tongue of immaturity, and submit to the man who God has placed over you during your life. A spouse can become our greatest ministry, as we suffer with the wrongs that are committed against us, and then show them the love, mercy and forgiveness of Christ. Not every spouse will remain in their marriage, and they might run off and abandon you completely, but always remember that the sin abides on them. This is because the Lord Jesus knows that you stood by their side, and never departed from His Covenant of marriage.

So in the Name of Christ Jesus I command you all, do not walk off on your marriage, and these are just a few more of my thoughts today, on……
