The Blood of the Lamb

Good morning and welcome in everybody.  Today, we are going to take a look at a passage of scripture, but before we do that, I wanted to tell you a little story.

Whenever we have.Holy Communion with others, it is very a somber event, because we are remembering what Jesus did for us on the cross. He laid down His own life and shed His own blood so that we could have the incredible treasure of forgiveness for our sins. But some of the church members were not reverencing the sacrifice of Christ, and were treating it like any other meal that they would have for supper. I want to make this perfectly clear to each of you that Holy Communion is the physical body and blood of our precious Lord Jesus Christ, and when we partake of it, you have to understand what you are receiving. The Lord Jesus taught that Communion is so important, that unless you partake of it you have no life in you. In Judaism, they partook of the physical sacrifice of the Passover Lamb, and in the church we partake of the physical sacrifice of Christ Jesus,

John 6:49-56 (KJB)  Your fathers did eat manna in the wilderness, and are dead. This is the bread which cometh down from heaven, that a man may eat thereof, and not die. I am the living bread which came down from heaven: if any man eat of this bread, he shall live for ever: and the bread that I will give is my flesh, which I will give for the life of the world. The Jews therefore strove among themselves, saying, How can this man give us his flesh to eat? Then Jesus said unto them, Verily, verily, I say unto you, Except ye eat the flesh of the Son of man, and drink his blood, ye have no life in you. Whoso eateth my flesh, and drinketh my blood, hath eternal life; and I will raise him up at the last day. For my flesh is meat indeed, and my blood is drink indeed. He that eateth my flesh, and drinketh my blood, dwelleth in me, and I in him.

Jesus is the life, and each time that we partake of Him during Holy Communion, the Lord Jesus dwells inside of us. But some people in the church could not discern that they were partaking of the living bread. It is the Divine and everlasting bread of God, given to us by our precious Lord as the atonement for our sins. This is why if you sin against others in the church, you must be reconciled unto them, and then have Holy Communion with each other to wash away your iniquities in the blood of the Lamb. The Scriptures warn us not to receive the grace of God in vain, one of the reasons why it is so important to look into your heart and judge yourself. When we examine ourselves, we are taking a deep look into our minds, to see if we are truly walking according to the one true faith. This is very important to do, because it shows the status of a humble and regretful heart in the sight of God.

Consider the Prodigal Son who did the same kind of thing when he finally looked into his own heart and recognized all of the bad things that he had done to his dad. Then with a contrite and penitent heart he went back home to take care of the matter. But sometimes people can partake of Holy Communion and lack sincere contrition for the evils that they have committed.  You need to take a good look into your hearts and minds, and make sure to judge your behaviors and lifestyles. Because of one’s lack of faith in the actual physical presence of the body and blood of Christ Jesus, they can become weak and sickly. Jesus healed the sick as He walked from town to town, and He can heal us physically when we have fairh and trust in the reality of Holy Communion

1 Corinthians 11:18-34 (KJB)  For first of all, when ye come together in the church, I hear that there be divisions among you; and I partly believe it. For there must be also heresies among you, that they which are approved may be made manifest among you. When ye come together therefore into one place, this is not to eat the Lord’s supper. For in eating every one taketh before other his own supper: and one is hungry, and another is drunken. What? have ye not houses to eat and to drink in? or despise ye the church of God, and shame them that have not? What shall I say to you? shall I praise you in this? I praise you not. For I have received of the Lord that which also I delivered unto you, That the Lord Jesus the same night in which he was betrayed took bread: And when he had given thanks, he brake it, and said, Take, eat: this is my body, which is broken for you: this do in remembrance of me. After the same manner also he took the cup, when he had supped, saying, This cup is the new testament in my blood: this do ye, as oft as ye drink it, in remembrance of me. For as often as ye eat this bread, and drink this cup, ye do shew the Lord’s death till he come.

Wherefore whosoever shall eat this bread, and drink this cup of the Lord, unworthily, shall be guilty of the body and blood of the Lord. But let a man examine himself, and so let him eat of that bread, and drink of that cup. For he that eateth and drinketh unworthily, eateth and drinketh damnation to himself, not discerning the Lord’s body. For this cause many are weak and sickly among you, and many sleep. For if we would judge ourselves, we should not be judged. But when we are judged, we are chastened of the Lord, that we should not be condemned with the world. Wherefore, my brethren, when ye come together to eat, tarry one for another. And if any man hunger, let him eat at home; that ye come not together unto condemnation. And the rest will I set in order when I come.

2 Corinthians 13:5-6 (KJB)  Examine yourselves, whether ye be in the faith; prove your own selves. Know ye not your own selves, how that Jesus Christ is in you, except ye be reprobates? But I trust that ye shall know that we are not reprobates.

In Holy Communion are found the treasures of Divine grace and a well that is filled up with everlasting life. It is a precious gift of God’s forgiveness, extended to the most wretched of sinners. Open your hearts and wash out your souls, as He cleanses us from all our sins. Humble yourselves under the mighty hand of God, and be washed, in,….
